To all post paid SKerians,please be warned that safaricom has since introduced a scheme where they arbitrariry append some charge labelled 'late fee' on your monthly bills. This is supposed to be a percentage value of your previous 'outstanding' balance after the 16th of the previous month,and is usually a value which cannot be justified by the customer service staff. The only response you can get is that 'it was computed by the system'. Given that these people are already pocketing a standing fee of Kshs. 200 a month from the post paid loyal customers,its unfair to inflate their bills on such grounds. Secondly,given that the post paid users call at Kshs 7/= per minute (after tax) and pre-paid tarriffs were since harmonised to Kshs. 8/= per minute,then there is no justification for the post-paid user to pledge their loyalty any more. Hence,unless the situation is rectified soon,mass exodus for this cluster is on the way.

Your take?

The ONLY great thing about Scon post paid is Customer Care 200. But how many times do you call it?

@kanyimwa,are you sure?

Late fee 2% of the outstanding amount and it`s not on 16th. It`s almost a month after due date.

For example if my bill has due date of 16th May 2009.

And I don`t pay it up,26 days after 16th i.e. on 11th Jun 2009,I'll be charged late fee.

Example 2% of 5000 = 100.00

I don't know but I have this gut feeling that these guys are using unorthodox means to earn their extra penny.

Is it just me or have their data rates recently doubled? Or was this announced and I missed it?

Of course,they conveniently have a disclaimer on the Safcom console that the Data Upload/Download stats are not necessarily accurate.

@Alphdoti,note that I'm sure

Let me make your example clear.

If in the month of April your total usage was Kshs. 5012/=,then you happened to pay Kshs. 5000,leaving an outstanding balance of Kshs.12,your May bill will comprise of the following;
> the usage for the month of May
> The outstanding balance of Kshs. 12 c/f from April
> 26% of total usage as taxes
> Kshs. 200 being the monthly standing fee
> and a 'late fee' of Kshs. 100.24 being 2% of the total Kshs. 5012 that you never cleared in April (and not 2% of Kshs.12,the outstanding balance)

Check your statement again then you re-read this example.

When did you pay the Ksh5,000?

Assume you spent Ksh5,012 in the month of Apr.

If you paid it 26 days after due date i.e. May 16th + 26 days = 11th Jun,then the whole outstanding amount of Ksh5,012 will attract late fee.

Otherwise,if you paid before 11th Jun,then only the balance Ksh12 will be charged late fee.

ha ha ha ha ha very interesting indeed!! You complain coz of the 2% late payment fee of which:

1) safcom has sent u several sms'es remind You to pay

2) gives u You more than 30days to pay up for what u used.No free services in this part of the world.Apart from Kingfisher.Lol I missed out the mbuzi though!

3)You used the services,why the heck are You finding it hard to pay?

and yet when KPLC disconnects u,u pay 580/= without posts here he he he .

The way out of this mess:- pay up bills in time next time !!!!!!!!!!!!

'My people perish due to lack of knowledge'. They have eyes but they dont see that Safaricom and Zain are big rip-offs.

Fear is your worst enemy. Fear to migrate to penny saving YU is what has left many Kenyans disoriented. Being in business i thought migrating to penny saving YU would spell disaster to my business. Unfortunately,the opposite has happened.

I'm saving a lot - 50cents and credit earned when i receive calls from other networks.What about old contacts? Simple; i diverted all my safaricom calls to my YU number.

I think the same fear instilled in us inpolitics,that without supporting One of our own would be disastrous is what Safcom and Zain use to lock us in. FEAR FEAR FEAR.
'If you migrate you'll lose business and vital contacts.' Crap.

So dont be locked in to late fees....save yourself afew coins.

In addition,the monthly standing fee of Kshs. 200/= is subjected to VAT and Excise tax. In essence,it stands at Kshs. 252/=.

@ Manja
We do not complain of KPLC disconnections because its a monopoly. For Safcom,the field is flooded with players.

When they launched it way back in 2005,it was a real 'Advantage',literally. Currently,it does not add up when compared to Ongea tarriff

@Coolbull,thanks for your info.
My contract expires in August and I'm already drawing a termination letter with them to that effect
