Just met this old man.Fellow has a packed MG 18 Morris (1969 model...most likely an MG B or MG GT).The car kicks good and is in fairly good condition. The original water cylinders for the suspension have been replace with LR 109 coils. The underside has been redone and reinforced.Only one small problem. The gearbox oil seals are broken and therefore the master piece doesn't hold oil for long....Question.Is it worth investing in especially when i consider spares?.The asking price is throwaway.

In my experience owning a classic is like marrying a crazy but very beautiful girl.

Anyway the car I think you are referring to is either an MG MGB or an MGC, the MG 18 stopped production in the 30's from what I recall. As much as its still not considered a true classic, its a great car and will sure turn heads when you take it for a spin on a nice sunday afternoon.

Well spares are definitely an issue locally, but you can get any part from UK and there are custom spare part makers if worst comes to worst. Plus the cost of MG spares compared to other classics is cheap.
Before you can be be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid.

@Njung'e...Nice car. How is the body work?

As Vj says "cost of MG spares compared to other classics is cheap." ... but shipping raises the costs.

take a look here

and follow the links for specific parts.

@Mwatha,

Wow!!Thanks!!...That will really help. The outer shell needs a fresh paint coat as it is badly done but i realize there is no filler nor signs of rust. The belly has been re-done but it also requires proper sealing and painting. The rear lenses have been modified with a funny looking set and here,I'll want to restore to original.....There is some work to be done but i am encouraged by the engine. It would beat many of this Jap mikebes by farsmile .I'll go for it,and re-build it pole pole to my satisfaction...The owner is asking for 80K and in my assessment,it's a throwaway price....Thanks once more.Below is a look-alike but it's ash grey!

80k...??? and the bodywork is fine? I'd say take it and do some quality work on it... take your time.... get the the proper rear lights
In UK, one in good condition (restored) will set you back ksh 1.5m +

Does it have the original 15 inch wire wheels?
Is it manual or auto?

Let me hijack the thread now that @guka has made up his mind.

I have been considering buying an old VW Bettle and giving it a make over. Anyone one with an experience on the same and figures - average buying price and make over costs.

The last thing I want is to end up with a "costly" good looking headache - the ones you give the mechanic one key so that you can be telling him where you've left the car everytime it breaks down.

Important Points: I want to use it as a secondary car, I am not a DIY kind of fellow when it comes to cars, I don't have the time and passion to spend long hours at the garage during a slow make over process.
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.
