When is the overdrive function lethal in fuel consumption.

My toyota has Overdrive off when I press the button inside and when I press again to push the button out, the "overdrive off" writings dissapear.

I haave all along been confused by this though I drive when the button is pushed out to remove the writtings.

See Baraza JM recommendations;

Quote:
c) Overdrive does not affect power, but it reduces fuel consumption by allowing the engine speed to drop without reducing road speed. Very good for economy. Keep it on at all times.

the dashboard should be clear when driving i.e you should NOT see "overdrive off" on the dashboard

To the best of my knowledge,you should drive with OD on (dashboard clear) if you are interested in saving fuel especially if driving at over 80kph.

If you drive the car with overdrive off, it will force the car to stay in the lower gear(gear 1-4),wont go to 5, giving you more power, but will hurt your fuel economy slightly.
Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

Confusing .... Any red sign on the dash board should be avoided. I guess "Overdrive-Off" is Red in colour
