@ Kavairu

What you have there is a Disco Series 2. They normally come in a TD5 engine that is normally about 3000CC diesel or a 4.0 V8 Petrol version. It is a marvelous vehicle. In Kenya, the used ones go for about 2M to 2.5M when in very good condition. You can check them out at Cheki.com. They are also available at the vehicle dealers at Karen especially the on one on Ngong Rd just before the Junction at the Shell Petrol Station.

It is a very good choice of car.

@bwenyeye: kweli wewe ndiwe bwenyeye.Don't lie to naive Kenyans.A Disco series II starts from Ksh500,000 to Ksh 1.5 million( this is the 2003/2004 facelift model, full leather +low mileage+dealer maintained).CMC sold a couple through a newspaper Ad early this year.those were the prices.

Eiish Ksh 1-1.5 million can get you a very clean Range Rover 4.6/4.0 of the same age.So how can a Disco be more expensive.A badly maintained 4.6/4.0 Range is between Ksh 800k-Ksh 1 million.

I think you are confusing with the Disco Series 1 the latter versions. The ones that came with the TD 200 and TD 300 engine models. Those were very reliable cars. Those cost what you are saying now ( KShs 0.5 to 1M).These cars were manufactured bet 1989 to 1999). I am talking of the Disco 2. Production between 1999 to 2004). The one just before the Disco 3.It was not in production for long and actually looks wierd. It came with a TD5 engine ( not even TD4).

CHeck the site http://en.wikipedia.org/...very#Discovery_Series_I for more info.

The reason why some Discos retain value over the RR is coz they mostly were introduced to Kenya with the Diesel engine ( 2.5 TDI). Not so with the RR. Operationally, it costs twice as much to run a RR 4.6/4.6 petrol, that it does a Diesel Disco.
bet you boss, CMC NEVER sold a used Series 2 at below Kshs 2M this year in the trade ins they were offering for sale. I know they had offered a series 1 for an amount below 2M.

@Bwenyenye:Yes Disco I's are max Ksh 700K.But if clean Disco II's are max Ksh 2.5mn pray where is the 2.5DSE Range Rover?

Brand new the Disco II was Ksh 6mn at CMC.Look at similarly aged SUV's they are now at Ksh 1.5mn max.

There are 2 versions of the Disco II 1999-2002 and 2002-2004(with RR like headlights), the former is below Ksh 1mn by any count. The later Ksh 1.5mn max if very clean.CMC sold one othe latter at about Ksh 1.5mn if my memory is correct. They had several Series I's and Series II's pre facelift bwtn Ksh 500k-Ksh 1mn that were snapped up on day 1.

By the way the wikipedia model page is heavy on the US spec Disco not the UK/Global one.

Ksh 2.5mn for Disco II's was about 2 years ago. It's hard to sell one at more than Ksh 1.5mn coz of economics.@Ksh 3mn you can get the New shape used Prado Ex-Japan.Add Ksh 500k to the Ksh 3mn and you have a showroom Hilux double cab.

UK Specs: http://www.wisebuyers.co...s/Land+Rover/Discovery+(1998-04)/

I find the 2.5 turbo diesel underpowered. Probably aimed at off roaders.

Thanks for the mention - the correct website link is www.cheki.co.ke for cars for sale in Kenya. We have (at the time of posting) 146 Landrovers for sale, half of which are Range Rovers and the rest Discovery and Defenders. You can find them all here: http://www.cheki.co.ke/land-rover

I respect your taste but I am just wondering why you would want to buy such a vehicle (pricey spare parts and maintenance costs and low resale value). I think for that budget a Toyota Harrier, Lexus or prado (if you can adjust your budget) would be better value for money!

It always amazes me how we have serious misconceptions about cars and believe in the sorry Toyota!!!! For the record, I own and have owned a number of Toyotas and yes they are inferior to Land Rover any day!
