Let me get this straight.

Supposing, God forbid, this Mwangi chap drops dead, does Muiganania stop sponsoring the students.

Shouldn't the credit be directed towards the original founders of the vision? The vision bearer is still alive, isn't he?

Last time I checked, Safcon is doing quite well in the absence of, what is his name again, I forget.

Kenya Commercial Bank is doing brilliantly under the current chap long after Hon. Michuki left it.

So, give @Luxel some slack. He might just have a point.

Obbo thinks that capitalism is strong and well, and he is trying to please some people with such vibe. I can't imagine him saying the converse and keeping his 'job'.

But if capitalism exists then there must be the class of workers; the peasants who have no voice.

And if the capitalist is educating the peasant, then he is reducing the 'proletarian' class, alas, by his own 'internal contradiction'.

Technological advancement has brought information to the peasant's door step. The 'philanthropist' is losing his value, so is the dictator. So no one can describe the future except in the case of unanimous conversation. Are Obbo's sentiments based on such a conversation?

But maybe he is saying all this because 'we' are silent.

I'm a fan of Obbo and i don't think he has anything against Mwangi/Equity. All is saying, if institutions were to go Equity's way, we would have the respective "zens", be it political party or a biz entity.
I think he's commending Equity and suggesting others would benefit if they offered scholarship and mentor-ship.
Kunyang my thinking.

I agree. By looking at the long term effects of the scholarship programme, I think he was pointing out an alternative route to building a base, rather than trying to buy/rent loyalty, why not breed your own 'zens', so to speak? I do think Obbo was being a bit tongue-in-cheek though, the Thursday piece usually is.
Better to ask the question and look like a fool for a moment, than to remain in ignorance and be a fool forever.

Nonsense!

As usual mwangi is chest thumping. He is behaving as if Equity is the first company to give scholarships. In fact he is wasting money on the media just to promote his personal bank instead of sponsoring extra students. Most of these funds are actually from MasterCard.

Organizations such as Caltex, Co-op bank, kenolkobil, palm---- have been doing this for years and they only appear in the media when inviting needy students to apply and others don’t coz they have their own way of identifying them.

Equity may be a big organization but that will never change mwangi from a crook to a role model. Never!

Please stop the hate

According to the article, two pupils are picked from every district. We do not know the criteria but God forbid they are not from one region. You talk of KK KCB and others who offer scholarships; what is their criteria? Or is it only known by those who work or are in the network of the said companies?
I have a friend who went to Cuba on a scholarship, few people would have known the existence of such scholarships but he was lucky since his mum worked at the education ministry which has the duty of picking the beneficiaries. Say bravo where it’s evident.

talk to the beneficiaries and you'll realize they just don't care about your analysing and overanalysing of the whole matter. Like that blind guy in the bible they don't care about your hate, and petty issues they were once hopeless but now they have hope. they have some education.
