Interesting view from Obbo but I think he went too deep. What would he rather these kids do? Stay at home and consume ARVs?

There is nothing wrong with being a capitalist

Journalists read too much into things.
I listened to some kids talk about this programme on the bench today and I was humbled and impressed.
You educate one child and he turns a whole village round.
It's this generation that will turn things round in future cz they know what it means to be helped.

Quote:
Looking ahead, if these Equity Foundation programmes continue for just another 25 years and remain at the same level, they will have nearly 50,000 of what I would call “Equityzens”.

Because the gender split is nearly 50-50, if by the time half of them are married to people who are not alumni of the programme and have families of three children each, you will have 12,500 Equity men having 37,500 children, and Equity women having 37,500 children too — 75,000 in all. In all, that would give you 125,000 Equityzens.

and what is wrong with that? they will be able and educated equityzens after all.

If other financial institutions would take suit, families would be transformed. Some institutions fund activities that make me wonder whether they understand our people.

I hope you are talking of activities like Golf, Safari Rally & Rugby when students are at Home without fees to be in school.

@Leomwa..That is what I meant only that I did not want to specify. The bank's names are now synoymous with these activities. We know the names of banks that we can replace with Safari Rally and Golf.

my form two son told me that his role model,( Four years ago) is James mwangi, i realised that the world is a global village,we have the best practices in our backyard!! The young people connect and as Sulwebright says, we should swallow our pride for misunderstanding Dr. James Mwangi and labelling him a scammer.

Nonsense!

As usual mwangi is chest thumping. He is behaving as if Equity is the first company to give scholarships. In fact he is wasting money on the media just to promote his personal bank instead of sponsoring extra students. Most of these funds are actually from MasterCard.

Organizations such as Caltex, Co-op bank, kenolkobil, palm---- have been doing this for years and they only appear in the media when inviting needy students to apply and others don’t coz they have their own way of identifying them.

Equity may be a big organization but that will never change mwangi from a crook to a role model. Never!

@ Luxel you sound so bitter. Mwangi might be a crook but let appreciate what he is doing it might be small in your eyes but it is still something for the unfortunate girls and boys from poor counties such as Turkana among others.
I listened to some beneficiaries giving their stories and it was amazing. Let be positive guys it is the way to go.

I think he's already a role model to so many. Actually Equity has had this kind of program for quite some time now. I believe the only reason why this has attracted a lot of attention from the media is probably because its being Sponsored by Equity, MasterCard and USAID and its biggest of its kind....besides i thought this was just a conference! I really don't understand why you are so bitter.
