If our teachers knew the things of God, they would not be insisting on Holiday Tuition. There is a time for everything and the Word has stated it very clearly.

And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:12-13. (Emphasis added).

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:Ecclesiastes 3:1.

AMEN! I find our education system to be flawed. What we are producing is a generation of crammers. People who cram facts but don't know how to put into effect the facts to work for them.

We have a generation of job seekers, not job makers. With the amount of opportunities open to exploitation, our natural resources, Kenya would have been self sustaining eons ago! Our flawed education system is making zombies out of our kids.. (Luckily the ones in my balls are not affectedsmile

Tuition is nothing but money minting and it's sad to what extent teachers will go to get that extra buck. Some of the consequences are just but very sad.

i think we should change the way we are handling our education sector. we are having a bunch of guys making key decisions without looking at our education goals and the country's educational needs. i remember during my time we used to take like seven to fourteen subjects. we were never allowed to use calculators, in maths we used log tables. i remember even then we used just to idle the first like two weeks of the term/sem with no/minimal teaching taking place, but still were required to attend the tuition thing!!... now, in age of five subjects, calculators, ipads, Wikipedia, Google, etc why would kids need remedial teaching??
Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in the World. If I'm not there, I go to work.

Nice post.
After all, kids need time to play, socialize and be creative. We are creating academic zombies rather than academicians or innovators.

From the thread title and the content of the initial post by the original poster, I can assume that he is looking at it from a faith perspective.

If that is the case

Quote:
Every human being, created in the image of God, is endowed with a power akin to that of the Creator—individuality, power to think and to do. The men in whom this power is developed are the men who bear responsibilities, who are leaders in enterprise, and who influence character.

It is the work of true education to develop this power, to train the youth to be thinkers, and not mere reflectors of other men’s thought. Instead of confining their study to that which men have said or written, let students be directed to the sources of truth, to the vast fields opened for research in nature and revelation.

Let them contemplate the great facts of duty and destiny, and the mind will expand and strengthen.

Quote:
Instead of educated weaklings, institutions of learning may send forth men strong to think and to act, men who are masters and not slaves of circumstances, men who possess breadth of mind, clearness of thought, and the courage of their convictions.

Such an education provides more than mental discipline; it provides more than physical training. It strengthens the character, so that truth and uprightness are not sacrificed to selfish desire or worldly ambition. It fortifies the mind against evil.

Instead of some master passion becoming a power to destroy, every motive and desire are brought into conformity to the great principles of right.

As the perfection of His character is dwelt upon, the mind is renewed, and the soul is re-created in the image of God. What education can be higher than this? What can equal it in value?

There is an interesting perspective on such an education that is found in Job chapter 28. Specifically from verse 12 onwards.

But alas, with the readily available cartoons, naija drama, pirated movies, facebook, youtube and kcpe & kcse rankings, such an education is severely hampered. We are only left with a shell that is too narrow and too low.

Hahaaa! Funny you mention about the word of God. I know of a school in Nai where the students are still being taught tuition, not in their classrooms, but in the nearby Church. This is done so that when they are caught, the students are told to say they are just doing some Church 'projects'. Of course you know the Church will get its 'cut' from this as wanafunzi wanalipa.
