there has been tension between the two communities for a while which could have been resolved before it got worse.

Oh even the Manderas are fighting vita kali sana.

The border has been closed after fierce fighting sijui with ethiopians.
Now that really tarnishes the image of EA as being a peaceful people.

These people from Northern Eastern will fight over anything. why kill 50 souls coz of pasture? I think educating the masses is the only way to resolve some of these issues. Government can't be everywhere all the time providing security.

I think it reflect how distorted we're as people! I am ashamed now I will have to explain to another foreigner who doesn't understand why people would turn against their neighbor when myself I don't understand it? Everyone pretend to be proud to be a Kenyan, I am ashamed!

I felt the same way @Rolldrunk. I first went to comment about the match I watched yesterday between Chelsea and Reading.

When I looked for the topic I was surprised to see only 18 comments. Now it had even disappeared. Yesterday as I watched the news I discovered it was revenge attacks and that the area politicians (because I don't consider them leaders) had incited the attacks. Like someone has mentioned up here, it is ironic that if a foreigner was to ask the cause of the conflict, I would only speculate that it's a conflict between agricultural and pastoral communities fighting for land and boundaries upon which they may conduct their activities but beyond that I don't know the nitty gritties.

The thing that shocked me the most was that it was over 50 people killed in a few days, such a number would elicit immediate public response if it was in any other part of Kenya apart from North Eastern and Tana River district.

We must admit as Kenyans that despite saying we're not tribal (especially those living in middle class Nairobi and other major towns) we don't fully recognize some communities as being Kenyans. And for that I AM ashamed.
