a friend is trying to sell to me a TZ registered car (Fielder 2004) at Kshs 650,000/-. My ignorance or lack of it tells me that I may actually be attempting to import a car from "abroad" and hence will pay all the relevant taxes plus the year 2004 is beyond 8 yrs maximum age. Please advice.
Layman, you seem to have answered all your questions. Now can you ask the real question here?
No.buy the vehicle.register it in tz and pay kra 2500 bob a year.that explains the many vehicles you see with tz and ug plates.you will only lack a kenyan license plate and a kenyan logbook but you will have the fielder and use it.
A practical solution indeed! You will also have a problem selling it - have to do so in TZ, and off course the vehicle will be magnet for cops looking for kitu kikubwa
