At least 30 dead. This is very sad and a very bad image for JZ's govt and SA. Heads need to roll.

its not really about the president. the political power struggle taking place in south africa is crazy. Things will get out of control at some point.

That is why we need infrastructure in Kenya to be able to benefit from this eminent fallout. Lets be honest!

that's crazy...the struggle continues. there are enough resources for everyone in SA. Don't see why a cop would kill such poor struggling miners.

It wasnt a peaceful demonstration per se but you still dont respond to a mosquito bite with a hammer! They could have used water, tear gas or rubber bullets.

Harrydre good question. But Im also thinking of the way the protesters acted. Earlier in the week they hacked two policemen and some members of a rival union to death at the same spot. On wednesday, they had spears, machetes and quite a number had loaded arms. Aljazeera footage confirmed one protester firing incessantly at the police officers as his colleagues brandished spears and pangas that appeared sharper than those usd by cane cutters in Mumias.

The grave labor issues aside, when you decide to take the law into your own hands and decide to shoot at police officers who are also fellow citizens, parents, husbands, wives e.t.c, you should prepare to be shot at.
