Following in others' footsteps, I am taping into the wazua knowledge pool. Does anyone know of an insurer in Kenya that has a medical cover for persons over 60?

insurers are there. the issue is the exclusions. they include just about any condition you would expect the aged to be dealing with

Exclusions I can consider but the most frustrating hurdle is the minimum age. All the ones I found (APA, Jubilee, CIC) have a maximum entry age of below 60. Sad

I thought NHIF only cover bed charges where one is admitted and that is only up to 2k per night.

APA claims in its commercial that they have a product for between 70-75 year-olds.

In govt hospitals, NHIF takes more than just bed charges as below!!!!

"Upon admission in hospital an NHIF member is accorded services and the hospital makes a claim to the Fund for reimbursement

An in-patient cover for the contributor, declared spouse and children

Provides comprehensive medical cover in majority of over 400 accredited Government facilities, Mission health providers and some private health providers across the country

Provides in-patient services in private and high cost hospitals on a co-payment basis
Comprehensive maternity and CS (Caesarian) package in government hospitals, majority of mission and some private hospitals

Dialysis at Kenyatta National Hospital & Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital at a rebate

Family planning – Vasectomy and Tubal Ligation
NHIF does not exclude any disease."

Please read this: http://www.nhif.or.ke/he...=default&page=&

"Under Category A (government hospitals), members would be able to enjoy full and comprehensive cover for maternity and medical diseases including surgery. In short, they will not need to pay for anything on admission provided they are fully paid up members of NHIF. Members admitted under contract Category B (private and mission) hospitals will enjoy full and comprehensive cover but where surgery is required, the contributor may be required to co-pay."

NHIF is a very good scheme. Perhaps their PR department leaves a lot to be desired....

I know some one who went to deliver a baby by CS at Kijabe hospital last year. She flashed her NHIF card and the surgery was done completely free of charge!

The link above is an eye opener...

Forget the so-called Clinix scandal, NHIF is a very good scheme.

Thank you people. I've narrowed down my options to resolution health and NHIF.

I was rather suprised that APA, with all their advertising about rewriting insurance rules, have a maximum entry age of 58 Sad

NHIF - No limits on age
UAP - 64 and below
Jubilee - 60 (extendable to 65 if in active service and with good medical reports)
Britam - 64 and below
REsolution - 64 and below (65 and above are only covered on renewal and will undergo medical exams at their cost before enrollment)
AON Minet - 70 and below

If you have deep pockets, check BUPA or Vanbreda.
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

Do you know the current rates for AON Minet for both inpatient and outpatient?
