Hello members

I need some assistance please.

A month ago a concrete mixer which i had hired for a day was stolen from a site where i was carrying out some construction works and i reported the theft to a local police station. A week later I traced the mixer into a scrap metal yard where it had supposedly been sold.

I went to a local police station and reported the finding and I was given some two armed policemen to accompany me to the yard. On arrival we found the guy who was running the scrap metal business but he claimed that he was not the owner and neither could he disclose who sold the mixer to them.

The guy was arrested and taken to the police station and locked up. Two days later I was made to understand that the fellow had been released and no charges had been preferred against him. When I enquired on the circumstances that led to his release, I was told that he was not the one who stole the mixer.

At this stage I got confused because I thought that the thief is the one who was found with the stolen property, unless of course he could produce the actual fellow who did the stealing.

I need justice done and the local police station is not doing anything. Please advise on the next course of action.

You have the mixer.
a better recourse is to sue but this will take your time and resources.

Do you have documents showing you hired the mixer? If yes then go claim it from the police. It will be hard to get it if there is no document showing you either hired it or the actual owner owns it. Forget the thief you will waste your money and time. Just have it well secured if you manage to get it back.

The one thing you need is the mixer back..not justice. Justice around here can prove elusive and the process will cost you. Not the ideal by any means but it is simply what it is.
The only way to deal with cops is know a senior ranking one. They tend to be more reasonable and a phone call from afande works miracles.
All the best.
