This is so very true. The W124's with the M111 engine were released in the market in 92. The E200 (replacing the M102 200E) is a decent car. For slightly more power and lower consumption (more power pushing roughly the same weight) and a couple more options, I would advise going for the E220 (which replaced the M102 230E).

Just a word of caution; with the M111 engines (except for the E200), Mercedes experimented with a bio-degradable wiring harnesses, which would fail sooner rather than later. This problem dogged Mercedes even with the first series of the W210 until around 97. My advice would be to take a critical look at the wiring and, if you are lucky, the previous owner has already replaced it.[/quote]

Spot on... having a good wiring harness makes a world of difference when it comes to performance. I was fortunate to get one where the harness had just been replaced with and original one... bliss!

This kind of a machine, how much would it consume say from Rongai to town...peak travel?
Twin-carburetor? My my my I had a 1500cc with a single carburetor and almost made me nuts.


Actually it is not a bad mlevi as it sounds. It does 7km per litre town service and about 10 on open road easy driving.So from Rongai to towm would be 20KMS?

Missed out on the 124's but have enjoyed the services of baby Mercedes (C180). Currently on the second one in 5 years and loving it. Trouble free and pleasure to drive around. Cant wait to try out 2007 ML (4X4).

Well dare i say this, i find Mercs a bit overated maybe just not my style. I have been on a 09 E90 BMW 220bhp 6 speed,easily gives me 50-55mpg its a diesel engine i might add, however its touted to do 68mpg thanks to its efficient dynamics technology.The only cars that seem to give me a run for my money are the big 4x4's and the super-cars ofcourse, however i love the sport manual mode when you feel a lil bit of racing, with it's traction control and obove all, i love the smooth drive it gives and i doubt i'll ever change it to a different make.

I have done a drag race with a C220, C240,Audi A5 and well they ate my dust lol

I agree the BMW's are fantastic cars. Unfortunately, I have never had the calling to own one.

Did you say drag race? I owned a W124 E320 (3.2L M104 Straight-six engine producing 220HP, 265 N·m @ 4600, 0-100 in 7.9 secs) for about a year. Had to sell the car after I told my wife that I would die in it. Wish I had met you when I had it......but whatever would have happened, I would still have bowed down to you. Yours is a diesel!

Is it true that the C2oo Kompressor is problematic? i really fancy that model but one ex-dobie mech told me to keep clear. Any advise?

I heard the same non-sense from so many mechanics prior to acquiring an E200 Kompressor. They said the supercharger fails blah blah blah..

The only issue with the Mercedes Benz cars is only the fading headlamps, malfunctioning brake lights and leather seats that seem to crack.

Otherwise, in terms of running the car is superb. Its economical and powerful which to me is the best of both worlds.
