Yes we have. During the simulcast period, both BVB-T(1) and BVB-T2 signals are available as well as analogue. But when the migration is done [September 2012 for Nairobi] both DVB-T(1) and analogue signals will be switched off and only DVB-T2 will be available. So when you buy a new TV set, you need to have that in mind.

Things like HD-TV need not worry you much coz if you want you usually receive FTA signals only, I don't foresee HD signals very soon. Even the subscription based TVs [like DSTV] don't transmit HD full-time...

DSTV transmits in 1080i, which is practically indistinguishable from 720p unless you're talking over 42" screens and even then it's very difficult to see the differences unless you're comfortable sitting with your nose on the screen.

To enjoy what has become know as FULL HD, that is 1080p, Blu-ray or PS3 is currently the only way to go but even then the difference to 1080i is really tiny.

From what I know, those DSTv HD channels can be watched on both Full HD or HD Ready TVs and there's an extra monthly charge which in my view isn't worth it.

There's definitely a lot to learn about these new TVs. Most recent broadcasts and videos, including DSTv are done with a screen aspect ratio of 16:9 while most older TVs had an spect ratio of 4:3. That's why you watch some videos or channels and the image seems to spill out of your screen- This leaves you with an bad view especially because you have to guess what the first or last letters of screen text are.

I also learnt after Vin's suggestion that the Cx520 has a screen ration of 14:6. And its true that its digital but DBVT-1 so if were are going to be on 2, then it means another chinese gadget will be needed. Extra cabling and an extra slot needed on the power extension cord.

It's true HD content is not that prevalent but if i remember when DVD come out guys still held on to their CD content and dismissed it. HD will take time so its not bad to prepare for the migration early enuff.

Well, personally, i will go for Samsung too, a good Full HD LED.
Size will depend of your budget.

@Chaka Very few TVs have DVB-T2 decoder built in at the moment. In cases where it is built in, it is rather expensive. You can visit the Samsung website (try the Africa and the US websites) for detailed specs.


@ everyone Regarding the aspect ratio with DSTV, I usually switch that on the decoder depending on what format is being transmitted (4:3 or 16:9). If the pictures look 'narrow' probably means you have 4:3 configured on the decoder and your TV is 16:9 natively (most LEDs and LCDs). Changing it makes it more 'natural'

Has CCK already switched off the DVB-T1 signal? My CX520 no longer receives digital broadcast like it used to.
