Gava to buy hundreds of Passats!People,is it party time or fingers will burn for the speculators like I?And btw, shouldn't the gava be buying from publicly owned companies for we tax payers /shareholders sake?

I wouldn't bank on CMC too much as government honchos have shown no inclination let alone indication theat they are going to tow the line and join Uhuru in owning Passats. However,i have seen a few on the streets with government number plates but that may be the usual number which is bought every years as opposed to an increase in purchases. But were they to comply and each ministry buys 3,that would be 3x45 (inclusive of the Attorney Generals Office) x 3M each(duty free,i think) = 405 million to CMC's account. If other government institutions and parastatals were to follow there is no end to the amount of money CMC can make.

But i have your guess is as good as mine on what Uhuru'sdirective will bear ...

The rule says 'maximum 1800cc' No make is prohibited - even though there was some unkind words regarding 1800cc Mercedes cars!

Uhuru choice of a VW Passat on budget day was great advertising for CMC. However, there are other equally sleek makes that GoK could go to....Audi (which used to be a CMC brand, but not any more),Chev,Opel, etc

All the same, all procurements will have to be done via competitive tendering thus no guarantee that the VW Passat will carry the day.

I heard on Radio that the gava has already ordered 150 Passats... What does this portend for DT?
