@ CDE, I was in Lamu last week and the project is taking shape. We were shown where the causeway will be built, the direction of the airport, the railway line etc. We visited the area where the govt-related buildings will be coming up - called govt area. The main roads have been graded and are motorable. The port administration building is under construction. Also, Ketraco are putting up a substation near the area with a target commissioning date of Feb 2013.

It is going to be real, and really soon.

@Hunderwear,

Thanks for the update and groundwork done. It looks real this thing is taking shape. A friend has some land and had wanted to dispose off, but he is being advised to wait a little longer.

A would give same advice the same if you got no hurry as they are still cheap.The current going price per acre should be the going price per plot in 2-3 years.One caution though should the Govt issue titles to the vast land(locally called witemere) to the locals as promised the expected rise should be dumpened.Should he insist on selling am interested hunderwear(AT)gmaildot com

Looks the government is very serious with this project. In today's BD, "Agency launches funds drive for Lamu port, Konza." Brand Kenya to showcase this project amongst others during the Olympics period.

I just love it when I have a leader who is striving to at least salvage his legacy. Kenya can only gain. . .

Which Co.is supplying the cement for the port construction?

It should be all of them.....am thinking Bamburi is supplying the bulk of it given that they have a plant in mombasa. I understand that the demand of cement is so high such that the companies haven't been able to satisfy the appetite.

From the Kenya Railways website, the construction of the railway will start once the first berth*(SP) is complete Source

Yes; berth. For ships at the port...

Not necessarily so.... The supplier of cement will be decided by the contractor who wins the tender. It is not a decision of the developer [GoK]!

Not necessarily. The supervisors of the project(architects,engineers and project managers)may specify in the contract which brand of cement to use for the project.

They do not specify brand of cement, only quality of the cement required.
