They repaired our road kwa estate before the recent rains and then they came back 2 weeks ago and promptly filled all potholes that were caused by the heavy rains. Potholes are now becoming very rare due to their good work. Kanjo even sent workers to trim the grass on the sides of the road and clear the storm water drainage. Kweli serikal inafanya kazi. A working nation.

I don't live next to a big fish. The road had been neglected for years and we can't believe that the govt/KURA/Kanjo has suddenly swung into action and is now maintaining the road. It should be something to do with the huge funds allocated to KURA for road maintenance.

Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Any decent highway engineer designs a road wth a design life of at least 15 years before any maintainance is carried out on it. Whoever is incharge of that road should be sacked.

Same should apply for Enterprise road. Was that road certified as completed given the rough edges near Likoni road and around Equity bank?

Correction: A tarmac road (also called a flexible pavement) should last 10 to 15 years WITH maintenance

The most important thing to maintain on a road is the drainage.

@bkismat I am glad I am not the only one who feels like smashing some bogus contractor's head!!! now that the chinese have upped the game.

Any one who has been to jogoo Rd off late? I am meant to understand cresent has been re-carpeting that road before thika rd was started and is still on site when the Chinese are already done with the super highway! worst still is the section between muthurwa and city stadium is shoddily done and the contractor is using some stone age technology to make the drainage! Why cant this pple borrow a leaf from the Chinese as a road is as good as its drainage system GRRRR!!!!pesa yetuu

That can't work in Kenya. If you do a very good job that won't require repairs, what will you do next year? That's like writing yourself off a job.

The dual carriage from Thika to Kenol built by TM-AM construction in the early 1980s is still intact todate. That more than 26 years.

SS Mehta re-carpeted Waiyaki way and less than six months down the line potholes are worse than before! Seems like they are using Super Glue instead of Lami. Maybe we should stop ranting and put the Minister to task or sue the contractor.

inaccurate. It was built around 1993-1994. Before then we were using the kabati road that runs close to the current dual carriage. And that old road was bad bad. They only recarpeted it just before opening the dual carriage

Exactly! I've wondered why TM-AM doesn't get these construction contracts that go to Kirinyaga, Nyoro, Crescent, Intex, Krishan Behal, Kabuito and SS Mehta. A bunch of corrupt companies who do shoddy work all the time!

20+ years without a single pothole, TM-AM must have done something very right.
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

@mawinder. In 1957,mzungu was around. SS Mehta and Crescent are a disgrace to road builders. Their roads built in Kenya huru don't last.
Foundation and thickness of the tarmac is everything in road building.
Them, they just scratch the surface, put an inch or two [utmost] of tarmac on top and they pocket their paycheck.
Drainage can sort itself.
The curb is as low as they get.
Compare the thickness of SS Mehta/Crescent tarmac and that of Chinese contractors.
Our local road contractors are just greedy.
Plain and simple. The noises about technology and all that is nothing but smoke screen.
Good foundation.
Thick tarmac.
Effective drainage.
10 inch curb.
What's so hard about that? Easy money?

I think I wasn't very clear and was thus misunderstood. It's not like they recarpeted the road and then it fell apart after a few weeks. What happened is that before the rains they patched up the potholes and worked on the drainage. As I said earlier the road is old and some parts which were intact and appeared ok before the rains developed potholes during the rains and these are the bits they recently came back to repair. And this is a commendable job since the road had been neglected for so long.
