you always come out as a strong defender of impunity.consistent one, who pays you?
with an educated middleclass thinking like this we are heading nowhere
My defence of Kioi is not only for what he sings about but his right to do so. It is the same right that I enjoy to say upuzi things sometimes, to educate sometimes, to analyse sometimes and basically to contribute and discuss. I write something that @newfarer does not like he is free to write that that is upuzi and to air his opinion. At the end of the day I have had my say, I have heard his reaction, we are both better off because we now know what effect our opinions have on other people.
This space to air our opinion is sacred ground that I would like to defend for everyone regardless of how I feel about their opinion.
People should rise up and castigate Kioi for being insensitive, they should refuse to buy his music and refuse to attend his gigs. They should even compose songs about what a hatemonger and Bure Kabisa singer he is. Radio stations can refuse to give him airplay and club owners can refuse to allow him to sing in their clubs.
What I refuse to accept is that we should tell him what to sing about and take him to court and charge him with hate speech when he sings something that we do not like. He is an entertainer and an artist and the right to express himself is one that we share with him even those who do not like his music. Feel disgust, say it, avoid the thread, make a negative comment, refuse to comment altogether but by all means do not deny others the right to have their say.
Let us not use the excuse of the post election violence to curtail peoples freedom to express themselves. Kenyans have been making fun of each others tribes even before the creation of the country Kenya. Visit any mjengo site and listen to fundis making fun of each others tribes Jaluos are like this, Kikuyus are like this etc. If we started rounding all people who make fun of each others tribe as hate speakers we would not have a country.
Let a Luo musician sing that Kamande is mistaken and that Uhuru is not the anointed one and that Raila is the real Messiah instead and Uhuru should bow to him. Regardless of how we feel about that message I hope we can all be here to defend his right to sing not arrest him and charge him with hate speech.
