That attack left a VERY bitter taste.. To the extent that they even dare/have time to shoot people who are lying down is just unthinkable, our police force needs a MAJOR overhaul!

We always point fingers on the wrong people...we as a people need to change. We are hiding information about these thugs. Youth in Garisa were seen celebrating when this massacre happened. If the GSU is sent there...all sort of cries will be heard from human rights groups etc..up to today we have no law inplace that can be used against these people so even when the cops arrest people on suspicion they cant take them to court nor hold them for more than 48hrs. How is the police expected to work. Would you have the morale to do it if it was you? I am not absorbing them from corruption and laxity claims but i think our security should be the responsibility of each and everyone.

I personally would like to hear/see our media getting more aggressive not in condemning the cops/govt but in educating Kenyans on how a grenade looks like...on the powders that are being discovered in bags, and any other weapon associated with terror. By the way, does the 999 call line work? Are there new numbers?

Citizen policing would be a time bomb in kenya (pardon the pun). There is a great probability that innocent people will be lynched. As evidenced from essyks analysis above we are not trained for such stuff. I dont dial 999 when i have a problem printing a doc coz... you guessed it? Ya,Its not their job! Similarly human rights guys are simply justifying their salaries by crying foul even when its not necessary. The police should get their act together-serve and protect. No excuses

Forget about that and wait for the next hit which might catch up with you. Unless you get police with extraterrestrial capabilities and abilities.

INVITATION TO COVER PRESS STATEMENT ON THE GARISSA CHURCH BOMBING ON 1ST JULY 2012

When: 4th July 2012 at 10am to 11am

Where: Nairobi Pentecostal Church- Valley Road

The Evangelical Alliance of Kenya(EAK)is the umbrella organization of mainstream Evangelicals, Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches in Kenya. It is the responsibility of the Kenya Government to secure Churches and other places of worship. Evangelical Churches have been bombed five times in recent times, the last bombing was at Africa Inland Church (AIC)in Garissa. 17 worshipers have died. The Government has blamed the Al- Shabaab for the attack. The Alliance feels that its churches are being targeted.

The Government has done nothing in the past. We believe that the Muslims have “declared war” on Christians. The Government seems to protect Islam. The Evangelicals cannot be patient forever.

The Evangelicals will start defending themselves. The Anti-Terrorism Bill must be reviewed and passed. We will be asking the Government of Kenya to arm the church for self defense.

Please come and cover the briefing.

Rev. Dr. Willy Mutiso
General Secretary
Evangelical Alliance of Kenya

I dont know.

I think the way we react to this may cause further grieveous harm.Let us not be hyper.
Is it a religious war or a political one?
Not all muslims support these fellows!
I think the christian organisation needs to go deep into history to understand and learn that religious wars are dirty and never end! Nobody wins.

These attackers are TERRORISTS with non muslims recruited to fight for them.
They should therefore be dealt with not from a religious standpoint but political one imo.
We have many countries that bear witness to this.
A perfect example is our western brothers in the west.
A word to the evangelicals; The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but spiritual and to be spiritually carnal is death.

Be wise, protect but don't go into the warzone cz that is what they want.

Shame on you. the 2 policemen guarding the aic church we reading newspapers/mag or whatever.that was literally sleeping on the job.if they were alert, with their 2,AK 47 and 60 round of ammunitions they could have repulsed the 4 hounded terrorists.this would have mitigated the live loses.

I feel really bad about this .kenyan police are a complete let down. while the millitary is working hard to clear the terrorists the police is busy taking bribes on the road where accidents are even taking more lives than the grenades due to lack of law enforcement /compromised police and sleeping on the job.
who doesn't know that the vehicle inspection unit at nairobi area is a bribe collection center.
who doesn't know that something is wrong at eastleigh?

I still insist, the police are f***ing up the primary responsibilities of keeping law and order and protecting civilians. Please bwana Itere take a few of your mboys to Uganda and see have Gen. Kale Kayihura did to ward off these shabaabs. When you walk around Kampala even in the most densely populated zones you see several layers of 'sechurete' which gives you the confidence it's unlikely a goon would attempt what shabaabs are doing in Nairobi, Msa and Garissa.

Theorizing and telling us security is the work of civilians borders on light weight thinking. Furthermore we pay taxes so that we don't have to be burdened with too much policing. We expect when the threats increase bwana iteere to walk across the street and tell Githae to cough some chums to hire more policemen or get more vests or get better surveilance equipment or heck fund some plan. If nothing is forth coming he can still cross the street and escalate his concerns to Yussuf or Baaba! Simply sitting twiddling thumbs and issuing statements is once again more baloney!

Ever listened to Ugandans pronouncing the word security? On serious note we are joking and I insist iteere is playing Russian roulette with our lives. He just needs to go to Uganda and learn a bit more. When you are under the attacks and threats like we are he has to use all tools at his disposal including psychological.
