@YWangu, happy 2012 bro/sis! Allow me to reply and kindly avoid insulting me like you did in 2011. Mwaka mpya mambo mapya... Now the scriptures you quote do not seem to reinforce your point. I thought you would quote Mtt 5: 17-20. But consider too Rom ch 2 v 17 all the way to chapter 6 and the entire Galatians.

Why don't you start the thread? This is a free forum!

I hope you are not implying that those who support tithing are interpreting the bible literary.

10 benefits of tithing

1. God is pleased by your obedience. Malachi 3:10 Regular giving is a sign of obedience to Christ. We prove our lover for Christ by obeying his commands.

2. God is honored by your faithfulness. Proverbs 3:9 He deserves our faithfulness.

3. Tithing helps to keep your priorities straight. Matthew 6:21 I believe that giving to the Lord is the number one priority for a believer.

4. You are eligible for a blessing. Malachi 3:10 But remember, the blessing is not always monetary – God has not promised “health and wealth” to the Christian. The believer is to be content in whatever state he is placed and God has promised to shield us from trials that we are not strong enough to face.

5. Guards Christians from selfishness. Acts 20:35 Tithing reminds us that ultimately our money does not belong to us.

6. God loves a cheerful giver. II Corinthians 9:6-12 Are you excited about the opportunity to serve God with your finances?

7. Tithing supports the Great Commission. Matthew 28:19,20 Your tithe should go to your local church and God has chosen to work through the church during this ages.

8. Tithing ensures that your needs will be met. Matthew 6:33 God has promised that our needs will be met. Needs – but not necessarily “wants”.

9. Tithing helps to meet the needs of God’s people. I Corinthians 16:1,2 Hopefully your church seeks to use at least a portion of its budget to help those less fortunate.

10. Tithing reminds us that God is the true owner and giver of all that we have. I Timothy 6:17,18 All we have belongs to God and the tithe helps to remind us of th

Hello Lolest!

You know I like you. Sometimes you annoy me but I still like you. Where would I be without you? After insulting you I feel bad and so I take this chance to ask for your forgiveness. You keep me humble you know. Anyway, thank you for the addition.

Onward, so some will say they are not bound by old testment regulations as they are under new testament grace.

Among others they cite Ephesians 2:8-9.

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

But they conveniently leave out verse 10

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

If God says 'Lolest, do a good thing and take a tenth from here and take there, and walk in it.' its safer for you to just do it.

He has even made it very easy for us giving a list and a figure to avoid wonderings and formulas.

Public opinion favors a profession of Christianity that needs little self denial or sacrifice.

Family Bank has introduced M-Kanisa, for paying tithes. That's taking it a bit too far.

....Curious: Why is it that Churches apply for tax exempt status if the Bible clearly states that we should render unto Caeser?

Because the law of "Caesar" (in this case, Government of Kenya) allows for it! Caesar does not expect a church to pay him taxes so, really, the church does not owe him anything.

However: the salaries earned by the church's employees (pastors and other administrators) are fully taxable like everyone else's.

The Kenya Revenue Authority plans to start reviewing the issue of tax exemptions in the Income Tax Act so as to decide whether or not it will bring churches into tax brackets.

Donations received from members and well-wishers should not be taxed. But when a church engages in business (e.g., JIAM's matatus, the Catholic's Insurance company, ACK's and PCEA's rental flats, offices and meeting rooms etc), then the income from that business must be taxed.

Assuming that religious organisations are ran by forthright people, then I do not expect there to be any problem with compliance. All that KRA has to do is write to them and they should do the right thing.

But I guess my assumption is probably too much to expect!

Hata hizo donations should be taken as income and taxed.

Tax donations? What is the rationale? Taxing tithes and offerings makes no sense but I agree commercial income should be taxed.

Moses removed his sandles at the holy place. Should pastors also insist on christians removing their shoes in entering the church? If we have to go by the old tetament as with tithing!
