If anyone can even consider Iteere as being anything but unprofessional in this case then you now understand where the words "boot licker" came from.

The past week has shown just how much of a shoddy gov't we've had for a time.

The emperor really has no clothes.

We have WWE champions, foreign invaders and now electrical faults that cause craters.

But we still want to see a road as an achievement.

Iteere can stay, but his boss really really must go.

Ngojea hivyo tu! Tulia and wait for it to happen... Lets wait to see how long that will take. Someone remind me what is the cut off point of getting into Kiganjo?

Iteere is going NOWHERE!!!!impunity has to be maintained under this government???....and you know they'd like it to continue...the fear now is to maintain the impunity trend after elections (they need a friendly president).

I think the Chemorei story is linked to the Arthur brothers...

Our police force really needs someone who can professionalize it we have very many ongoing inquest into murders that from the affected families perspective are easy to solve.

Take the guy who killed his girlfriend the other day in Nyeri by knifing her several times..the family of the girl has been claiming that the suspect has been communicating via FB and text the police dismissed those allegations..this guy is still at large.

When some of us say we shld notify the police when we see suspicious characters who do you call..the police 999 number does not function they dont publicize their Hotlines how will a common mwananchi inform the police in a matter of minutes.... patrols are far and wide I can walk a whole street without finding a police officer.

The other day I gave a story about a colleague of mine who was robbed inside a bank no police was on site to help...they only appeared after the suspect had escaped.

Iteere has issues - I especially think he knows more on the drugs issue and the attendant intrigues of Police deaths etc. than he is offering.

However as concerns yesterday’s blast, and his explanation – there isn’t much to warrant the kind of vilifying witnessed here!

Firstly it is a strategy for security personnel the world over to seek to play down onslaught on them by the enemy –at least in the public arena, while in private and their security meetings they truthfully appreciate the situation and map out effective ways of dealing with it.

Iteere ONLY said that, it is PROBABLY an electric related blast but, conclusive probe would reveal the real cause.
Perhaps Calculated to not get the public to panic as well as not upset the delicate Tourism sector.

A few years back Chris Murungaru was blamed for announcing in the media that a certain known Terrorist had entered and left the country several times with intent to hit targets in Kenya. That served to squezze life out of the hyper sensitive Tourism sector.
Kenyans cannot have it both ways.

Minutes after the blast, Raila spoke with vehemence and authority about dealing with Terrorism – giving an impression of a man in-charge.
How then do his fans here keep blaming a Government that he speaks for – and somehow absolve him of that blame.
Again can’t have it both ways.

Ngalaka I agree with you to a point.

I didn't like seeing Raila going around saying that the cause was this or that before investigations were over. That is not in his docket. But its silly season, so I wasn't surprised to see him and Mudavadi doing silly things.

However, Iteere is supposed to be a professional.

If this was the first instance, he could be forgiven. But he's forming a habit of concluding investigations on the scene. Remember Mwau's driver.

That is not professionalism. That is lack of it.

He's not being villified by one incidence. But a collection of incidences.

The question people are asking is "is Kenya really safe with the current policing?"

If you are, then Iteere is fine. If you don't feel safe, then he's got to be villified as the leader of the police force.

That is what it means to be professional. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but honestly, there are too many stories this week concerning the force and obviously there's a leadership vacuum.

Luckily for us, one of the leaders will retire March 2013. Iteere might just end up being the Police Commish.

How about that for another 5yrs?Shame on you

I agree with ngalaka that the govt has a duty to calm the public after such an incident to prevent panic, and the 'suspected electric fault'is a good way to do it before you carry out the investigations. That said I think fighting terrorism is a tough job since they could strike anytime and any place. As other posters have said, we all have a duty to report anything that appears suspicious since the police can't be in all places all the time (including all exhibition stores in town). Border security should be enhanced to prevent smuggling of arms, bombs etc, though that is a tough task considering how long and porous the border is.

Sorry guys, none of us Kenyans deserve quality policing at all.
Cops ask for good reliable cars – we give them a few vehicles, with no fuel – in some cases OCS has to get back to their pockets for fueling even basic patrols; we throw them into patrols in dangerous high-crime areas/ operations against hardcore crooks yet we deny them a basic bullet-proof vest – guess what some have to pay from their pockets to even maintain their walkie talkies! when injured in the line of duty, they have to meet their own medical bills, if killed in action, too bad we are quick to kick their families out of residential police lines; we train them for policing duties, but give them nanny duties of pushing carts at supermarkets for wenyenchi residing in Karen; they ask for a forensic lab to analyse residues such as those from jana’s blast at Assanands so that they do good professional investigations – but fat cats skim their cash in anglo-fleecing deals; they ask for police reforms so that they can operate with responsibility and accountability, but we let our politicians misuse and manipulate them so that they can disperse a politician’s rival rallies; they try to earn a decent living on their pay packets, but some smart alec somewhere deducts union dues from their measly pay slips even as we all know they have no labour union.
You know what? We deserve poor quality of policing! Because we have not invested in good quality policing. We are merely harvesting what we invested. The Police Commish job is a poisoned chalice in Kenya! No wonder it takes a hard Israeli-trained commando like Bw. Itere to stomach all this SH*T! Me and you wouldn’t survive a day!
If there's anything we learnt from Lumumba's stint at KACC (and which we discussed exhaustively here), merely putting a good guy at the top with no structural changes across a diseased institution is just aint the done thing.
I say Itere must not go-yet.

I repeat again. I need help. I really do. If only for those of us who do not know what exactly to do.

Exactly how do I go about reporting a terrorist crime in the making, about to happen and after it has happened?

The basics Citizens. The basics. What the man, woman or child on the street or in the village, in your opinion, should do.

Then we can escalate the situation from there.

come on! what the heck are you driving at? eti ocs fuel cop cars from pockets?? haha lol! tell me something, how do the ocs eses end up putting 5 storey flats with a 40k after tax salary (don't even try police sacco) and how is it some constables i know own some very nice motiis (for info they serve as courtoom orderies and in the flying squad). kenya police is rotten to the core; incompentent service! nobody is keeping watch! that's why commish prefers quick solutions like elec fault to attend other pressing matters..you know what i mean!
