You know what I give up!! Honestly the next time a mzungu calls you ignorant or inferior to him, please bow down and accept, coz thats essentially what you are doing here. No one has answered my question of why isnt the African allowed to set up NGOs and keep 80% of the proceeds? One thing I will admire about Westerners is they dont have this defeatist mentality that most of you have, they will never say since X is exploiting us, why not let Y exploit us too? They will fight to the death to keep their dignity. Do you not see anything wrong with using images of starving children to collect money and build yourself a mansion? Sigiriri define Escapism, coz what you are advocating is actually escapist. They are taking 80%, lets bury our heads in the sand and just accept the 20%. At this rate and with this kind of thinking, Africa will be recolonized again, oh wait, it already is, grow a spine!!

@Nabwire, keep it civil. We got spines.
The point Obi is making and the point i am making is this.
"AFRICANS GET YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER".
Period! Period! Period!

Escapism is loosely, heaping the blame, the fault on the wrong party.
If i'm doing business with a fool, i will more often than not, exploit the fool.
It's not my duty to NOT act selfish.
But when i'm dealing with a smart business partner, everything will be on the table.
I'm not bowing to any mzungu and neither is any of those who know the real problem. I will use my brain and the mzungu won't exploit me.
It is wrong to use pics of starving children to raise funds then use the better chunk on administration, but as the recipient of such aid,its more rewarding, if you invest your resources in solving hunger issues so that the mzungu doesn't take those pics anymore.
Complaining about the pics when you continue to die is self-defeating.Too much for nothing.

Legally you can raise money in the name of helping the mzungu, but since he got the means and ways,he will attempt to solve the issue before you get there.

I have been involved in raising money for a certain NGO out there.
@Nabwire, is there a way of knowing how much we raised if you are the intended recipient? As the recipient of such aid, you take what you get, even if it's 20% of the total collection. It's not morally right, but do you have the means for redress?
So, how can Africans stop the collection of the whole aid kitty, in the name of helping them?
Simple, sort the mess that they, donors claim to be solving for you.
If you have the spine you want us to grow, then you would know you are addressing the symptoms, not the problem.
A well governed Africa, free from disease, hunger, good education, good roads, good social infrastructure, that Africa will demand RESPECT even without uttering a single murmur.

Who stopped you from setting up an NGO? If you mean setting up one in US, UK etc, then the answer is simple, they don't allow anyone, even a Mzungu to set up such organisations because they have functioning welfare systems that take care of the disadvantaged in society.

But as to Kenya, I can bet you will be allowed by the GOK to set up one as soon as you TKK and have the patience to navigate the endless bureaucracies. You will however havea problem collecting any donations from Africans (coz they don't have enough to share) or Mzungu coz he does not trust your arse.

TBH I don't know why you are complaining, to use a famous Clinton quote, "its your elected leaders(he actually said economy) silly"
"The purpose of bureaucracy is to compensate for incompetence and lack of discipline." James Collins
