CORRECTION - had indicated CPL - but I meant PPL (private pilot's licence)

Hi
Anyone in the know abt:

1 - Where do do PPL training?
2 - What are the minimum requirements ?
(also, can a 16 year old do this?)
3 - What are the total costs?
4 - Anything else worth knowing about this?

And not to worry - no WTC/9-11 kind of activities going on smile

1. Kenya School of Flying (plus one other not sure where), but many guys go to SA for training
2. None that I know of. Yes, 16 year olds can train. I know someone who started straight after finishing IGCSE O Levels.
3. Costs expensive. Roughly Ksh 7,000 per flying hour.

Hi Why PPL?

You know u can't work for money. More of a leisure licence.

1. Go to Dr. Ilako/Dr. Gatabaki/Dr. Wanjama n get your medical done
2. Go to KSOF/CMC/99s in Wilson airport
3. With your medical, apply for STUDENTS Pilot licence
4. KSOF-(Kenya school of flying) have this assessment program where u fly for 3-5hours and they establish whether you have an aptitude for flying. Understand that flying is not for everyone. You maybe a genius in books or college or whatever but u are just not meant to fly. So I think this is a very good starting point where u are assessed and it helps u not waste money in future if ur aptitude is not upto speed.
5. Minimum age 16 for SPL, 17 for PPL
6. Should cost just shy of 1M including all licence fees, medical, extra hours etc etc. most people spend between 800k-1M for this.

After u do ur PPL and u want to pursue CPL/MULTI/IR/CFI, you should either go to SA at 43rd/progress etc or, my preference would be go to the US, in particular FlightSafety International, ivy league for flight schools. Although I'm probably biased for Flightsafety.

Duration in Kenya depends on the student however, 6months would be about right.

In the US a PPL takes about 1-2 months and the whole course, depending on the school takes 1-2 years. Kenya may take abit longer. Again depends on the person, resources available etc

@lol

The full deal upto MULTI/IR +CPL is about $50,000-$100,000 depending on the student, school etc

Even better, there is the KQ ABINITIO Deal
