I will not vote for him exactly because he has been so successful at what he does. He has been an excellent manager at constituency level. He has managed his money well and engaged the people of Gatanga in a most productive way. He has not been politicking, instead he has been engaged and has delivered. To me his next logical step should have been Governor of Muranga where his skill set would have been more useful to the larger county because it would require exactly the same kind of management he had perfected at constituency level.
Terrible as this might sound the presidency at this time would require a less managerial and development minded person and more of an enabling, steadying, listening, laid back politicking kind of person. In my opinion a successful president is not exactly the one who does the most but one who prevents things going wrong. He listens, reassures, encourages, discourages, inspires, asks questions, watches constantly and that is why soft intangible attributes like wisdom and integrity mean so much more than managerial abilities. It might actually be desirable for a president to be a bit lazy so that he can allow the people around him to be strong and effective. I think Kibaki has the demeanor of a great president. I think it was Ronald Reagan who said, "It's true that hard work never killed anyone, but I figure, why take the chance." He was quite laid back.
The man who is able to bring out the best in the team around him would make the best president not necessarily the greatest doer.
