@Selah....Pep decided to resign long before the Chelsea match, he's also in the final year of his contract....the Barca mgt are begging him to renew his contract but he seems determined to leave. On the contrary Pep might actually kick out Di Matteo, Abramovich wants him to take charge of Chelsea next season.....Man City are also after his signature.

I don't support it. That is like rewarding dirty play.Players might be tempted to commit light tackles, get their teams to the finals then get their bans suspended. That's injustice.
For wrongful yellow cards like Alaba's, those should be lifted after appeals.
It was more accidental than reckless.

@Taz actually the telegraph says he was tired of coaching barca.

Quote:

The team selections for those three games were of a coach who no longer believed wholeheartedly in all his players. Gerard Pique was left out of the first leg at Stamford Bridge and the Nou Camp league game with Real Madrid. Dani Alves was not picked to play in the second leg against Chelsea.

He was famously out with his wife, watching a three-hour play at a Barcelona theatre when Chelsea and Benfica were playing their quarter-final second leg. Preferring a three-hour modern Greek tragedy called Incendies to making plans to prevent the 180-minute footballing catastrophe that befell his side in the semi-finals. It was the action of a man who needed a rest.

bilbao bamboozling manu is no hypothesis. and i have good reason to believe that in the coming years we will see more of that stuff from la liga teams. Lets wait and see

Seriously? You are basing your argument on Bilbao versus Man U? Are you infering that the Bundesliga is better than La Liga because Bayern Munich were the better side against Real Madrid over the two games? Fact is Man U is the number two team in Europe, EPL is the top league in Europe. Statistics don't lie. You can go to UEFA.com.

I don't support it too. Teams should be bigger than the players. If you are indisciplined, you should be suspended. Remember how Usain Bolt was disqualified during the World Athletics Championships 100m final for a false start? An argument was that this is Bolt, the best in the field, rules need to be bent. But really? If it was a Chinese guy disqualified, would there be an outcry? Rules are rules and they need to be followed. If players are suspended for the UCL final, it's not because of UEFA. It's simply because they were indisciplined.

I'll agree with Mourinho's sentiments that an El Clasico sandwiched between both CL semis cost both Madrid and Barca. Chelsea made 8 changes to the team that beat Barca at The Bridge to draw with Arsenal while Bayern rested virtually their whole squad when they played and won over the weekend, knowing that a win for Dortmund would guarantee them the Bundesliga title, which they did. The laws of basic science cannot be discounted, Madrid and Barca were drained physically and mentally after El Clasico.

I always knew Bayern would score at Madrid and after Rela going 2 nil up in 14 min, Bayern picked their tempo and Gomez and Robben were particularly wasteful infront of goal - heck, even Casillas almost saved Robbens pena that got them back into the game!

Clearly Mourinho thought he'd win in regular time and saw no need for his players to practice penalties like most teams do when the reach semis of continental competitions e.g. World Cup, Euros, AFCO,Copa America etc. Most of those semis are decide by penas and guys practice for them. Ofcourse Neuer was good but when people like Ramos take penas, you know there's something wrong.

@Marty, Bayern will be without Alaba, Badstuber and Gustavo, all key players, so both teams will be weakened. I also agree with Jupp, yellows should fall off at the finals, even at the risk of players playing badly during semis. Can you imagine a Barca Real final without Messi and CR7 because they picked up silly suspenisons for minor infringements? No!

I think Bayern have enough to trouble Chelsea who I think will miss Ramirez badly. Robben, Ribery and Gomez are a nightmare to many defenses (and Chelsea will not be playing excessive defending like they did against Barca since this is a final) and with the fans behind Bayern, they should win it. Football, ofcourse, is stranger than fiction.

I only support in the context of minor infringements - not leg breaking tackles. Why should Alaba miss the final because the ball hit his hand as he slid for a tackle?

Why did RvP get a second yellow that led to a red in their return against Barca in the 2010/2011 CL in Nou Camp simply coz he didn't hear the offside whistle and followed up his shot?If it was semi and he had been on a yellow in the first leg, he'd have missed the final if they had progressed. All coz of a silly yellow?Let's be real guys.

The UCL final is not an entity of its own, it's a culmination of progress. Hence any yellow cards given, whether accidental or for reckless or minor infringements, shouldn't be waived. Those rules have always been there, they shouldn't be used only when the best players are missing. If Danijel Pranjić, Anatoliy Tymoschuk, Takashi Usami, Ivica Olic for Bayern, or Romeu, Malouda, Betrand and Sturridge for Chelsea missed the final due to suspension, would we be asking UEFA to change the rules?

@JusBlaze, by the way the argument is not based on who is given the yellow - I can see why it looks like it is. The argument is based on the whole issue of video technology and retrospective judgements.

Supposing the clash between Arsenal and Man City was a CL final and Mario was on a yellow from the first leg. UEFA should allow for the ref to see the tackle by Mario on Song and give a retrospective yellow (or red) that would make him miss the final.

In the same breath,if you remember the match between AC and Barca, Ambrosini was given a yellow for a foul committed by another player. If the situation was the same i.e. 2nd leg semi with the player already on a yellow, shouldn't UEFA rescind the yellow and allow Ambrosini to play in the final?

I'm talking about yellows that should not have been given, irrespective of the player.Meireles made a bad tackle for him to booked and miss the final - that's on him. But what about Alaba?

@Kingfisher...2009/2010 the time Atletico Madrid first won the UEFA Europa league against Fulham, Bayern Munich lost the UEFA champions league to Inter Milan....

That should give you some hope come 19th May 2012, but i'm rooting for a Bayern win...money can only take you so far...
