Didn't ODM start the process of changing their constitution to accommodate Mudavadi's views? including accepting to vote at the county level...

ODM's party constitution stipulates that the party leader will be the automatic presidential candidate, MM wanted that changed to give other members a chance to vote for their preferred candidate....he also wanted each county to vote separately instead of gathering delegates in Nairobi to make the decision.

ODM has already filed its constitution with the Registrar of Political Parties, ati the changes will come in later on....clearly the idea was to lock MM in ndio ashindwe kuhama in case he's dissatisfied with anything.

as @YW has mentioned....

Anyway, me thinks the deadline of 30th April 2012 was fast approaching, why not beat the deadline first and then change the ODM constitution....especially that the party has explicitly mentioned it to the Registrar of parties that it will change it's constitution in line with Mudavadi's demands....and also accepting that they will nominate the presidential candidate according to how Mudavadi wants it...did he run away because he sensed defeat whatever method was going to be used by ODM???

Is ODM the only party being judged using the highest standards? has any other registered party shown any interest in nominating their presidential candidate democratically as they expect ODM to do? especially at the county level?

I still think ODM should change their constitution whether Mudavadi leaves or not....it is a party that should remain strong for years to come...hopefully! and choose it's presidential candidates using that method unlike others who are being fronted by their communities, "mtu akitaka kura za Central Kenya aongee na Uhuru"

The reasons Mudavadi is giving for parting ways with ODM should have been tackled long time ago not just a few months to registration deadline.

Although I am a Martha Karua supporter...I find it disingenuous for mudavadi to insist on grassroot nomination....can ODM have the resources to protect itself from enemy infiltration who can use the open opportunity to nominate weak candidates.

Even in the US delegates(colleges) nominates a presidential candidate. Why wuld Mudavadi insist on this risky route given the pitfalls that wuld befall the ODM party.

IMHO some one is behind Mudavadi latest move just like his last detour where he abandoned LDP and made history as one of the shortest serving vice president. This latest detour might cost him again.

@ YW and Nostopping.......Stop talking about other parties, the issue here is MM and ODM. I'm sure when time comes we will also discuss the rest! IMHO watu kama Midiwo and Nyongo are liabilities to ODM, they should have been kicked out instead of MM, Najib, WR and the rest.

@ Selah, I totally agree with you ODM should have dealt with MM's issues immediately after NEC passed the resolution to ammend the constitution. On MM's detour, i believe this time it won't be as costly as 2002. So many people think that its RAO who sealed MM's fate after he ditched LDP but i think the main reason was the late Wamalwa's influence in Western and his role in NARC. I don't think there's anyone else who has that kind of support within ODM.

Mudavadi et al were at the meeting that drafted the ODM constitution to have the party leader as presidential candidate, why did he have a change of heart at the last minute? Why raise his concerns now? Is their a force pushing him....I think his move is late!!! and the "small" party he wants to take over, I hope he manages to register it and put in place structures....the dude has an uphill task...

i have a few questions 1. when did MM realize he wanted to run 2. when was the constitution made 3. How is the party leader chosen (cant they vote a party leader who then automatically becomes a candidate?)

MM is definitely a MOI project, Mark Too (Mr Fix it) has been assigned to baby sit him, If tehy manage to get WR to support him, RAO's goose is cooked

ION I will vote for Martha or Kiyapi, havent decided yet

Ah, there you have made sense. I too think midiwo has little to add but a lot to substract.....

I am sure when the time comes, we will discuss the other parties.

But how could odm have dealt with MMs issues? Can you explain to me step by step what they could have done?

I wonder why you think I would know. Is the Ngino you are referring to Mr Lawrence Nginyo Kariuki?

I wouldn't vote for Mudavadi even if I saw the 12 deciples anointing him. You have got to be kidding me.
