Okay there you have it, Kibaki will leave a lasting legacy despite his weaknesses. So what key character attribute do we need in the next president?
Male? Youth? Incorruptible? Economy Minded? Authoritativeness? A man of the people? Leading from the front?
I've thought about it and come to realise that the one thing we need is a leader with big ears. A guy who is fallible is ok, with no charisma no issue, a Kikuyu fine... BUT DOES HE LISTEN?
Because Kibaki had many faults, made several mistakes, and was not an expert at plenty. Everytime most issues, he seemed to take some time, listen, then sort it out. It is easier to listen if you don't talk toooo much.

Ok, have the good ears but something in between them too. "Incorruptible" - do not know of one yet, have an angel in mind? (this is just a perception- if the fellow is not, his/her lieutenants will at one point be implicated and by extension the person) I care!

Everyone has a price. but some are just too corrupt.. some its a matter of getting the best

@Muganda, Trust me, the only thing people will remember about Kibz is that the PEV tok place during his reign. For me I want a president who is first and foremost Kenyan, the rest can follow. "The purpose of bureaucracy is to compensate for incompetence and lack of discipline." James Collins

@YoungMulla, almost all leaders act but do they take advice and discern first? @thuks do not look for an angel, but a human being ready to correct mistakes when pointed out. @Impunity if it's a dictator, what happens if he is wrong? With a dictator you must pray very hard that they are good or smart.
President hardly does much action directly. Nor can he be smarter than all the technocrats around him. Straight thinking and commonsense should be adequate. Our new constitution has moved to the level of institutions and professionals; president needs to let these wheels turn without meddling too much.
In America the no-1 criteria is INTEGRITY. Some would say in developing countries, the no-1 critieria should be VISION. But I say it goes with the territory. In an Africa formerly ruled by Chieftains with democracy absent, the answer needs to be LISTENING (openly compassionately with understanding).
