Does a 'few hours' mean after market closing? They can't announce when the market is in session. It's lost 30 cts so far.....

is there somthing that we dont know regarding the results? Could they have made a loss in their half year results? Are we headed for a massacre Mumias style? Hope the 3PM conference has some encouraging news. We will need it. Trust me.

A loss is unlikely. A drop in profit relative to 1H-08 is almost definite. Only question is by how much. Anything else would be a (pleasant or unpleasant) surprise.

no need to over-analyze the results. 08 was xmasi and so a peak that was completely unexpected. You can't blame them for taking in the super profits.
Other than that the bank has continued to grow well. 1200 new customers per day in Uganda without any advertising. If they keep up the momentum they could pull an Equity Bank Kenya in Uganda and you know how the profits come rolling in at that point.
My advice see the forest for the trees. This is still a very good business with a very special value sell. If it completely conquers Uganda and hopefully moves into another high potential country like Ghana,Nigeria or S. Africa - the value of this bank will go through the roof. This is the kind of stock that if it continues to do well can create a few millionaires in this country. Imagine an Africa-wide EB with HQs in Nairobi,Kenya.

I'm waiting for the results with interest as a pointer to future performance but still focused on the long term.

That would explain the sudden dip in the share price today. Damn this. Would you have a link we can click to read more?

Good results after you knock off the one-time gain they had last year...

This is one of few banks that still excellent momentum going fwd. Compare its entry into Ug with any other Kenyan bank,if u don't believe. Infact,Its diversification from kenya will do it a power of good bcos our economy will grow at a slower rate than of any EA nation. Hence issues with npls in the Kenyan business.

Short-term presents an excellent entry point for those who are interested in holding for 2 or more years.

Hi Guys,i would wish to know how other banks performed comparatively with the 'one off event' . Mwangi has separated it but have not seen other CEO's doing it.

Anyone with such an info? Thanks

results look ok under the circumstances. Expected worse from the loan book due to the drought. What was impressive is the regional performance. It does look like Equity will be making more than 500m profit from the region this year. Interesting comparison with KCB which could loose much more than that amount this year due to the regional xpnsn

@ SimonKabz,

From management,the comment was

'Overall, the bank has invested over Sh8 billion in the past one year to diversify its business and upgrade its systems. '

@ Simonkabz,

Keep in mind there was expansion into UG that must have taken a huge chunk of that 8B. As for the system upgrades...

'Investment was made in shoring up the central ICT platform and an additional 279 ATMs were installed to bring the total to 585 Visa branded ATMs.'
