Did you see the clip on KTN where a school boy was jumped over by a flying rally car?

Guess what; it was stolen from a freelance cameraman contracted by Hill & Knowlton, the PR arm of Scan Ad and PR agents of KCB.

Sadiq Shaban was given the clip to make a copy but he has now refused with the original...and is refusing to answer the cameraman's calls.

The cameraman went to KTN offices and Sadiq flatly refused to see him.

@mukiha.....how could you be knowing all this??? You must be part of this game somehow...KCB or Scanad...which is which? Or the cameramen

@Kingfisher;
Actually,I am have no relationship with either KTN,Hill & Knowlton,ScanAd,KCB,KMSF or the Cameraman.

I happened to be at the I&M building [visiting my bank] and overheard the cameraman bitterly complaining of his woes..and how Sadiq has refused to answer his calls or to see him. The cameraman was accompanied by an official from Hill & Knowlton who confirmed that indeed the footage had been taken by the guy.

It's amazing what you can pick up on the streets of Nairobi while just minding your own business....

So you hear a guy and his partner somewhere at I & M accusing another of stealing his footage and without hearing the story from the 'accused' you come here and report it as fact? At the very least qualify your assertions in the opening post and state that it is alleged. And we complain about the standards of journalism in Kenya.

What a shame by KTN. I wonder what else they do to get ahead.

@Wendz,at times yes. At times the smoke is just smoke. Experience has taught me that it is not always productive to rush to judgement on things before hearing the full story. In this instance the story is not complete until you at least hear what ktn has to say.

And on top of that the story raises several issues. Like:

why give the ktn guy the original clip if you are contracted by someone else? why not give them a copy? was it sold to ktn,if at all it belonged to the freelance guy? and if indeed it was given to ktn then why is the accusation of theft and not merely one of refusing to return the original.

etc

could the fact that ktn has the original mean that it is actually theirs and the freelance guy is the person who wants to unfairly claim it?

sorry man @mukiha.....i didnt mean to put you in this kind of trouble, but now you know better than to give one side of the story.

Anyway lets wait and see what it will unfold to..

If the allegations are true them my opinion would be that the freelance is just stupid, how do you give out your originals to a 'rival' to make a copy and then return it to you!!!!

The chief value of money lies in the fact that one lives in a world in which it is overestimated.

@mkenyan; This is exactly the kind of discussion I wanted to start by posting it the way I did. Now you have brought in a new angle. Some one else will see it differently from both you and me. There are more that TWO sides to a story....

To accuse @Mukiha of one sided reporting is unfair. What was he to do,drop all else and rush to fish for the other side of the story?come on. In instances such as this, you always find yourself backing the underdog. For sure, they must have struck a deal, which of course went awry.Shame on KTN,they didn't even acknowledge the fact, when the clip aired.

mr tea - My point is that given that the story he heard was from only one of the parties then the posting here should not have been categorical and unequivocal as it was. It should have been qualified.

muhkiha - I get you point on what you wanted to achieve by taking the line you took (not that I agree with it). And it is indeed true that there are several sides to each story. Though going from my opinion on your posts in sk,you strike me as always objective and that leads me to suspect that there may be more facts to the story within your knowledge than you are telling us.

I am not holding brief for ktn or the standard group. In fact I would not be surprised if indeed the complaints are true. I know for a fact that several of their standard newspaper writers do copy and paste work of others' work on their articles.

With all the new digital technology and rivalry in the media it should be possible to make video/audio content say on a CD or digital tape inaccessible till the owner 'unlocks' it as in logging in to your laptop?

Kamaa, check page 2 todays Standard,it's stuff out of Reality TV,a shocking escape from certain death by a random kid watching the Kajiado rally when a rally car hits a bump, veers off the road and hits a bunker, flying in the air into a tree. The clip captures the whole scene, with the lucy boy seen jumping away with the car right on top of him. This is stuff you can actually sell to those reality progis for what I believe would be a small fortune
