Theu...I totally feel you on the extreme weather. I remember nearly becoming a victim of frost bite just before reaching shipton. We had been trekking for nearly an hour in the ice rain on the way to shipton. Luckily we found the porters had already set a charcoal jiko on to warm our cold behinds. A couple of sips of locally distilled chang'aa from the porters finally warmed our freezing souls. Wherever the porters got the chang'aa I have no idea but in such tempratures only chum does the trick!!
All in all,Mt Kenya is a beautiful sight to marvel and behold .
