Agriculture minister William Ruto wants the secret envelope containing names of the post-election violence suspects handed over to the International Criminal Court at The Hague without further delay.

Mr Ruto says the two-month period given by former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan to Kenya to make a new attempt at setting up a local tribunal to try the suspects was unnecessary.

“Kofi Annan should hand over the envelope that contains names of suspects to the International Criminal Court at The Hague so that proper investigations can start,” Mr Ruto said. “Mr Annan should allow us to move forward. We cannot just get stuck in one place addressing the same thing.”

Mr Ruto’s latest stand contradicts the position of Prime Minister Raila Odinga, leader of his ODM party, who prefers a local tribunal.

Actually, its the central kenya MPs that have changed their tune (they thought since kyuks were the beaten up people, they wanted justice on those that beat them up) - I may be mistaken, but I cannot remember any instance that Ruto in person has asked for the cases to come back to Kenya. can you?

I tend to think the problem is not with Uhuruto, it is with us the masses who should analyse and see a politician's principles in perspective BUT we refuse to think. Uhuruto Marshalled their supporters in parliament to defeat the Kibaki/Raila quest for local tribunal. Now they shout all over in prayer meetings that Raila took them to Hague, and even sponser fake papers in parliament to justify their cause, and we still follow.
Raila cd be wrong, and this shd be pointed out BUT lets also be sober and point out where Uhuruto are wrong, lets use the same scale to get better leaders for our beautiful country. Lets not be afraid to speak the truth. Alhamdulillah.

the failure to have a local tribunal was pivoted on the central kenya mps - they wanted vengeance on those who caused PEV. secondly, the reason people are suspicious on the ICC is that the prime beneficiary of the whole affair is not present in the court case. everyone else seems to be represented in there except the beneficiary.

oh yes, as is being used by its proponents now. the tune would be different if names starting with "O" were in the mix. How do I know this? does anyone remember that the likes of Ny'ongo and ODM top brass were breathing fire and brimstone during the PEV period saying - JUSTICE BEFORE PEACE, NO RAILA NO PEACE until they witnessed on national TV their kin being pulled off a matatu and slashed? their tune changed to - let's discuss this. there is no need for violence e.t.c.
