Economic marginalization

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Commissioner Alice Nderitu, Vice-Chairperson Mary Onyango, and NCIC boss Mzalendo Kibunjia after closure of the conference.
Making a report from a meeting held in Nyanza, Peter Wanyande, a commissioner with the Constitution Implementation Commission, said area residents felt they are experiencing economic marginalisation.

"People there say that there are no industries to offer job opportunities and infrastructures have been neglected," reported Prof Wanyande.

Why cant they build their own.Must they wait for 'outsiders' to come build industries for them when they already have industrious people from that region?

There are worthy risks to undertake and for me it's not setting up industries in volatile regions where people's reactions to issues both social and political are soo crude and backwards.
Consider the season too.
Work on mentalities first and let people know that destryoing their means of economic gain is like karma.

Hyacinth end products find their way abroad,so does fish,I am sure there's a lot more that the locals leaders can do for them.
Even wangari was carried in a coffin made of hyacinth.

It is true that there is economic marginalization in this country. you just dont want to admit it. look at the coast and see why MRC is springing up. Go to Turkana and see for yourself, NEP etc. why would a fish Processing firm be bulit in Thika and there is no L. turkan, baringo or victoria or in thika. BE REAL and speak the truth. Thats why if MRC at coast is not addressed, its a time bomb buddy.

Who is building it? GoK or private investor?

If GoK, then you have a point. If private investor, then your point fizzles out.

Still; your point regarding NEP. For many decades this region has been ignored and the results are in plain sight. The misguided logic has been that there is no point in building infrastructure in a place that is not productive.

This is warped logic; the reality is that a region develops because of infrastructure. Look at the map of Kenya and you will see that all development falls within 50km of the Uganda railway. And remember that this railway was built to access Uganda, not Kenya!

But; things are changing (thanks to the Kibaki administration). The tarmac linking Isiolo to moyale has just about 150km to go and the contractor is already on site to complete the job. And this was not part of LAPSET project...

how come when other tribes move to these so called marginalized areas they quickly pick up and develop until the next General Elections?

There was a time the coastal people requested Kenyatta for tractors and farm machineries to help them till their land and Kenyatta responded well; he sent Kikuyus in thousands to till the coastal land. So, the land tilling problem was solved in the coast.

If you cannot develop your own land and come up with ways of upgrading munataka nani awafanyie hivyo.If the leaders you elect dont care about you then who do you blame?

Think well and put ur money where it will grow not only in gucci wear,range and runda while back home hakuna piped water.
Its sad to see the resources lying idle while we continue crying serikali.
