If you like what you do and are not doing it just for the pay cheque, then I would advice you to go for it. Hard.

In a couple of months you will be headed for a promotion, a pay rise and some fringe benefits.

Pole sana @ Mapozi, now think, could be there be something that you need to improve at work? If so go ahead and work on it. One trick i learnt is to keep the boss in the loop.
If for some unforeseen reason I copuld'nt meet a deadline I inform in advance so it can help in the bosses planning.
N, well u've heard the not so juicy statements said about bosses a good number of which I tend to agree with. so at tyms don't be surprised when u see some behaviours from bosses. But that doesn't mean you be disrespectfulthey are still bosses.

They do not want to fire you. They prefer 'managing you out'.

Next, minimal or no pay increments, no promotions no bonus. I propose that you consider (1) whether you love what you are doing (2) Whether you are doing it to the best of your ability (3) whether you have the tools you need to succeed (4) whether you have the skills to succeed.

Whatever you conclude, have an honest discussion with your boss. If you are not performing, ackowledge it, you can ask for time to turn it around/resources/training or ask for time to get a job. But one thing you must not do is ignore the feedback. Take charge of your career. No one will do it for you!

This is my take. If they told you that you suck in writing then there is a possibility they are laying the ground work for your eventual firing. If they told you verbally [which is what you say they did] then they simply want you to improve - and they are hoping you do. Actually as someone said, they might actually be grooming you for a promotion. 90% of bosses will never tell you "I am grooming you for this and that...". They simply expose you to opportunities, push you to the max [to see how you would operate under pressure], give you challenging assignments - short notice and all etc. If you crack, there goes the promotion. If you step up, you rise so fast it will blow your mind.

This is what you do. Have a sit down with your boss. And you have to be the one who requests for the meeting this time round! Request him to explain what he feels you haven't been doing right and how he would rather you did it. Explain to him how you are planning to remedy the situation and ask him for his advice including courses you can enroll into if necessary. Follow what you had agreed upon to the letter and after a month or two ask him how you are fairing. You might end up heading the company one day.

Some bosses are mentors while some are just a pain in the... Your boss might be the former. He might just have seen a diamond in the rough and he wants to refine it and you are busy trying to quit!

@mapozi please do read through what maichBlack has suggested, from around five months ago my boss started offloading most of her work to me and handling of those hard customers was to become my cup of tea every day. little did i know that she was preparing for her exit .

Her recommendations was that i could handle the job very well though it's not yet filled or may way, i now know what to do in any given scenerio and i do thank her for that indirect metorship.

@Mapozi,
Great advice from Acceleriskconsult and Maichblack. However you also need to think of an alternative; fallback. Was in an almost similar position and had to leave. Would be deverstated if I had not prepared myself for it. Tis not the end of the world you know?

@Mapozi,

Had a boss, whom I could not cope with. Kind of had a personal disliking for me; from the time she joined the department.Always wanted her way and not comforable with other peoples views.Very very long meeting, too often. No appreciation of work done.Started with caution letters and warning letter. Notified her of my intent to leave.Started something small on the side, which I suspect she might have become aware of and thus pushed me out.Thanks to GodPray ,I left with a package. I have nothing personal against her and we even chart when we meet.
Just thought you need to prepare yourself psycologically,for the 2 options as I have known people to be affected when told to leave. But please remember, until they push you out, consider the aformentioned advice and persue the proposed options.
