Kenya Railways Corporation, KRC, has been mandated to develop its large holding of real estate country-wide into Railway cities. This will provide facilities lacking in some of the existing cities and make others viable business destinations. Initially it proposes to develop Railway cities in Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa and Voi.

When will anyone stop talking and start doing something. It seems the railways chap is badly afflicted by the talkaholic disease.

I wish they were working on providing reliable rail services for the already existing towns... at least start with Nairobi because they know the market is readily there..... If they were reliable, clean and on schedule, i honestly would gladly park my car till the weekend... because with the road transport as it is right now, we are just going deeper into the woods! All i can remember of this company is change of names, logos and colours.... nothing else... they don't even try to market it and if they do, i dont know what their target market is! But I hear they have a 'young, vibrant, high flier marketer"!

I have come to the conclusion that no one in the Kenyan government wants the railway system to succeed in anything. Just you wait and see what will happen in LAPSSET - the highways will be built quickly but the railway line will take the next 200 years...just wait and see.

The other day I saw a documentary about the early 1900's, and it mentioned that a railway was built to send armaments to Khartoum from the east african coast at a rate of 1 1/2 miles a day, while the workers travelled on foot.
