How did you post without access, I think this latest one has to do with the KDN fibre optic cable cut some distant from Mombasa!!!

@mcreggea...nilipanda na laptop juu ya mti nikapata internetsmile
anyway confirmed reports show there was a fiber cut between mazeras & voi on TKL and KPLC fiber link to MSA was down since yesterday. Any ISP's with internet traffic on this routes were affected.
these numerous fiber cuts are as many as KPLC blackouts!!

its funny that my ISP sends me an outage notification on email ( a service that rides on the service that is suffering outage)...its like SAFCOM or HAIRTEL sending outage notifications via SMS! pure genius.

You have to understand that you and the isp are on one network and can therefore communicate seamlessly. The cut is between nairobi and mombasa.

Don't these companies know about something called Redundancy. Do they have Disaster Preparedness plans? Is it ignorance, costs savings or pure lack of seriousness?

The cost of redudancy and disaster recovery must be less than the cost of damage caused by outage.I doubt anyone is gonna lay fibre across continents just for redudancy.

Hey you are very wrong it's a standard operating principle to always have a redundant route for critical routes. Have a look at the the below link to see the cables terminating in Kenya

From the link, there is only one Teams,Seacom,Eassy undersea cable.

Unless as a provider e.g KDN,AK,Safcom you are linked to each of the three....there is really no redudancy incase one cable is cut.

exactly that's why you need to be linked to at-least 2 cables!
