The current entrenched tribalism and the 2008 mess outweighs all the good he has done (which are many) and will forever taint his legacy..

Sir, on a serious note, do you expect the president type of car to be Legacy. His are range rovers or Mercs. He will never ride in a Toyota leave alone a Subaru.

The car's tints (taints if you like) come factory assembled in the windows and hence he doesn't need to do the windows himself.

For more information on Kibaki's attitude towards Legacy, ask Mutahi Ngunyi (Political Analyst).

I see how Kenyans forget so fast.I thought we were through this after 2007 PEV.Its also unfortunate that we see tribalism in what Kibaki has done for this country.I have always asked myself did Kibaki need to give the smallest tribe in this land all the jobs so that he does not get labeled a tribalist?I think numbers speak for themselves and it a fact that the majority of Prostitutes,Chokoras, farmers, thiefs, teachers, jailbirds,Doctors etc are Kikuyus. The reality is they are the majolity in everyother aspect expect as fishermen.Lets face the reality and life will be easy for all of us.

I personally do not see how Kibaki is a tribalist. You work with people loyal to you and like it happens everywhere else in the world, you choose who you want to work with. Like the case of advisers, he has had people like Kivutha Kibwana, he had Tuju, Nick Wanjohi, these were the people who were in his team for reelection and he thus had to retain them in his advisory team. As per state house, the same applies; PPS, state house comptroller, I do not have the numbers of the people who work there and their tribes.
During his first term in office, he decided to give ministers freedom to run their ministries. Like one Njeru Githae said, the ministers have and had the authority of who they get to work with. It’s the people who were in your campaign team, you went to school with, and have business relations and all. It’s a cycle of the cliché surrounding the guys up there. Not wanting to touch on Raila coz this is not the topic, he has Carole Omondi as the man in charge …………., he had people like Miguna as adviser and if he was to form the next Gov. He would name guys he has worked with before, friends, business associates and the like.
If Kibaki was to be branded as a tribalist, it would be just in the places he has had direct appointment, not appointments that have to go through parliament and the like. The issue that comes at hand here is when people think that their area gets development coz the prezzy comes from there. If this was not the case, areas like central would not be like they are now since Moi was in power for 24 yrs. By the way I used to hear ati if you go to some places in Baringo, he had built roads where nowadays there are more goats then cars using them.
People have to stop the habit of always blaming tribalism on everything. Many rich people out there do not see each other as Kikuyu, Luo or Maasai they see each other as business associates where the issue is to make money. In Kenya it’s just the tribe of the rich and the tribe of the poor; point in question is what happened in 2007 where fracas occurred only where the poor live. In most posh places where people live harmoniously and forgot their tribal affiliations nothing happened.
Shame on you

If most of those who you like and work with are from your tribe, that is what in English is referred to as TRIBALISM.

Yes chiaroscuro, and we must demand that the next man or woman to occupy State Hse must give us Kibaki's good side plus many more good things.

Who who gives us hope that we will not get tribal appointments or corruption?

A 60Km highway built towards the presidents home territory and people give him a standing ovation for improving infrastructure.

You are right...we will never get another Kibaki. Thank God.

You're wrong kollabo. Very wrong.

So why is he doing the road to Moyale? Thika Rd may be grand and good looking but Moyale Highway?

What is REALLY wrong with tribalism?

Wouldn't you be in best company among those who speak language that you identify with?

When doing business, you look at factors that will give best returns -finding best mouse trap among your kinsmen - they know the genre of mice in your neighborhood.

When recruiting staff, its easier to work with people whose names you can pronounce, whose culture you understand for motivational purposes etc.

Those proselytizing against tribalism here are:
a) the best in their tribes - and are lonely at the top.
b) well educated in foreign languages, and ashamed of speaking their mother tongue slaves-style.
c) Ambitious - they refuse to accept their communities' inherent weaknesses and want to 'keep up with Joneses'
d) pots which calls kettle black.

Its not unconstitutional, immoral, or criminal to be a tribalist. Or is it?
