Rank: Elder Joined: 11/13/2008 Posts: 1,565		...for a pre-teen interested in star gazing. he already has a microscope and now needs to look further... any ideas? nothing too high tech - enough to see the craters on the moon and perhaps make out Venus during that time of the year. Any tips appreciated.

It's a good starting point before you buy the telescope Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Rank: Elder Joined: 11/13/2008 Posts: 1,565		@mukiha thanks - point #3 made sense...and lead me to #4 - I have a pair of WWII binoculars (from my late Grandfather) and I think we'll start with that - esp in the next week or so when the next full moon is due and hoping its not cloudy or rainy on those nights.
