News from the London Conference on Somalia indicate that the 2500 KDF officers will be joining AMISOM under a Ugandan commander insults KDF high integrity and track record of military leadership achievements. The opportunity KDF has lost is the ultimate attack on Kismayu which would have liberated Somalia. Kismayu was the only strategic objective that could have baptized the Kenya defense forces as ‘The Most Powerful Army in the Region.’

KDF has used a unique strategy that has seen them kill thousands of Al-Shabaab fighters and driven them out of strategic towns, where Somali government forces have now been positioned. It is clear to many that KDF, billed by many as a career army has achieved more than expected compared to Americans and Ethiopians who lost out to the militants and incurred heavy casualties.

Despite their press conferences and reassurances, the reality on the ground could be very different e.g. Al Shabaab fighters simply retreating tactically or blending in with the population giving the appearance of successes for the KDF. All military operations engage in some degree of propaganda to keep the citizenry happy and willing to support the push. I'm not saying that they are misinforming the public, just that it is a possibility. So don't be too quick to look at this as a bad move for our troops.

Also be happy that we will have a reduced financial burden when they join AMISOM.

I didn't know that a show of military leadership was the objective of the mission.

So what if the command is Ugandan? Has it occurred to you that there was a central command even before KDF joined AMISOM? Somalia is already divided into sectors and Ehiopia has a sector, AMISOM has a sector, KDF has a sector, TDF has a sector. Who drew up the sectors and assigned forces to them if not a central command?

You seem to be hurtling like a ballistic missile, an unguided one I might add.

It was rumoured in some sections of media abroad that UG as AMISOM leader was deliberately bungling the ouster of al shabaab so as to continue receiving military aid as well as finances to that end for a prolonged period - maintaining the gravy train so to speak.

The entry of Burundi sparked a leadership tussle with UG insisting that they join the AMISOM under UG command, not wanting to disrupt the gravy train.

I wont be surprised if they viewed Kenyan entry into AMISOM with a certain degree of unease...
