I thought Mungiki was at state house in Oct 2007.Talk to them, they are also Kenyans.

Possible....but they could only have talked to some individuals in government but not the government......and talking to them won't happen and it's simple.Who are they?

The unfortunate thing is that this agitation is happening in the heat of politics. And MRC knows that no politician got the balls to stand against them because of the coastal votes matter, Kenyan politics being what it is today. And little wonder every airhead politician is bending over backwards talking about negotiating this and negotiating that.
This is of course very unfortunate. Such groupings with their ridiculous demands should never be allowed time, but then again whatever it is they are complaining against shouldn't have been allowed to occur in the first place.

MRU are not a new grouping, they have been around for a while. I am sure as far back as 1998 and the sentiments they represent - much further back. Dealing with them ruthlessly is a mistake! because you cannot force people to stay with you its not sustainable, consider Eritrea's case. The more you force them the more they want OUT. However you can convince them of the benefit of a united Kenya. If you use force you will create martyrs and 'independence' heros remember the wise words that 'Treason Is A Matter Of Dates'. I think the only sustainable thing is to ensure that the masses they are talking too see the benefit of a union with 'watu wa bara' and giving them freedoms to do stuff locally will greatly aid in this - county governments are the way forward for them.

That is why I have insisted on us having a serious president this time round, not nyef nyef material. It is easier to discuss the issues affecting the MRC now than wait until matters become elephant then you do a mini genocide in the name of bringing back sanity. SDLF style was not the best and the after effect is still felt to today. Innocent citizens get hurt by both the rebels and the government. The rebels chop your ears, the government converts your body into a sieve and you are a Kenyan. When it comes to Shaamba boys, the soldiers are scared of getting into the forest (Kismayu) like they did in Elgon forest cauze they know they are dealing with no nonsense rebels. Why cant they enter Kismayu overnight? Why mark time, why play coward and ask to join Amisom. Simply get in and get hammered or you hammer the tough guys and whoever wins takes credit. Hopeless.

I am not appraised of what the Kismayu landscape is like. but the far more effective approach is what they are taking now...SEIGE....cut of the supplies. wait until they are weak and their supporters are tired of them - then attack.

What guys do not get is that the mrc mainly consist of the mwarabu population and a few indigenous (muslim) mijikenda. And the bigger picture people do not see is that Coast province is not comprised of ONLY muslim/arab population. In fact they are the minority, the majority are the mijikenda who are usually the "silent" lot. On the ground most do not support the mrc because there has always been an unspoken enmity between the indigenous mijikenda and the 'wadzomba' so there is lack of trust between the two.

I tend to agree.

Whereas SLDF were dealt with ruthlessly and Kenyans rejoiced, MRC is different.

Whatever their origins and who funds them, they have romanticized the idea of breaking away to the local population who are falling in love with it.

They definitely learnt from SLDF. Mow down with force some members and others will willingly and rapidly spring up to take their place.

Is it really that simple to want to secede??

Does it mean that if guys in Kisumu decide that they are fed up with being kenyans they can just gang up and start demanding to secede from kenya???

P.S.. My mention of kisumu has no inclinations whatsoever.. just an example...

Most Vigilantes(including alshabaab ,mungiki nd al qaeda) group initially start with a goal to fight some injustice.B4 it get out of hand and they become a security threat.Am saddened that a major party(ODM) in the country can associate with them.just shows u how some ppo dnt understand internal security policies.
We should say no,and crush the rebellion.Including saying no to any presidential candidate who entertains such groups.
