Calculating paint quantities required for a project

To the experienced builders(professional/ home owners); is there a proven formula for calculating the amount of paint that will go into a building?

I came across the one on the link below but i found it a little simplistic

You cant be serious. You are supposed to be the authority on paint matters and should be the one giving us the answer to the question you asked.

Anyway, your competitors Duracoat have a formula on their website.

@CB what was the point ....for us to discuss paint? ever watched paint dry?

ion: need a painter who does those trowel paints interior. any leads

@ jauggernaut, we make and sell paints but the best placed people to comment on our paint or even painting advice are the users/customers. We too have a calculator- www.crownberger.co.ke. What i am seeking is to find out whether wazuans have found these calculators useful and if you have found better methods of estimating from practical experience. I have my opinion and experience in this, but i cant claim to know it all.
