The speed limit currently stands at 110 kph. Apparently there is a differance between the speed gun readings vs the vehicle's speedometer amounting to 10 kph above the latter's readings. Also note that the gadget can detect you 5km away, long before you spot the speed trap. It is most likely that the police take the highest reading to pin you down.

The speed limit also varies.if u are in a town area then the limit is 50 .in your case at ruiru would fall under this limit.

The national speed limits are:

110km/h on dual carriage highways ways (applies only to Thika highway - Muthaiga to Makutano turn-off - and to Waiyaki way - Uthiru fly-over to Limuru turn-off.......no where else, even Mombasa road is and urban road thus 50km/h!!!!!)
80km/h on single carriage highways (e.g.,Mombasa highway, from Mlolongo onwards - excluding,of course, where the highway passes through towns and market centres...!!!!)

Of course, these limits are riduculous at some places.....but that reminds me of the reason why the Automobile Association was formed in the UK: to fight ridiculous speed limits!! Wake up AA of Kenya

It is 110 KPH for private vehicles on dual carriage ways and 100 KPH on two way traffic for the same vehicles.

PSVs and trucks are limited to 80 KPH. 50 KPH in town for all vehicles.

We also have speed limits for residential areas and police road blocks as I am made to understand. Could someone clarify.

I have been arrested same spots as you. Voi I was guilty as hell at 140 KPH. Ruiru at 114 KPH but they let me go. This guys will arrest you if you are doing more than 2KPH over the limit.
