Do you want to stop drinking or to read the book???? The chief value of money lies in the fact that one lives in a world in which it is overestimated. ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

Can one starve to death for not drinking?...If you are determined to stop ..just do it.....Been around for long now....never taken beer or wine...still alive and enjoying life ....Beer has destroyed many families......... I refused to take it on that basis....Cos it has destroyed a very close friend I mean fundamental analysis,you get me? Fundamental analysis of a business involves analyzing its financial statements and health,its management and competitive advantages,and its competitors Isaiah 65:17-Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore

Dij..congrats for your decision....you can make it ..yes you can....beer has been idolized ... I don't know why...instead of thinking of going to a bar...join a gym you 'll make friend there to 'replace' your bar friends.....or go for some jogging...you will be amazed at the results on your health..youll never regret.. I mean fundamental analysis,you get me? @ dijkstra, reading a book will not make you stop drink,without self determination and will power. the best that i have seen working amongst my buddies who have left the kanywaji is reducing it gradually but consistently. it is a long and painful process,but along the way it will start bearing the desired fruits.... NEVER TALK OF A RHINO IF THERE IS NO TREE NEAREBY - ZULU PROVERB ...besides, the presence of a safe alone does not signify that there is money inside...

@dijk* - you sound desperate. I'm not sure you're getting the help you want. If you do not find the book you're looking for in Kenya,I will get/send you one from UK (free). Let me know. Motobex.

By the way do we have an equivalent of Alcoholics anonymous in Kenya? I think many people would benefit from it

thanks all,
@Fundaah;
thanks for encouraging me - you are the second person to congratulate me for what I have decided.. even my closest friends didn't. I think drunkards don't like it when they one of their own decides to quit.
@JkMwatha;
I really appreciate your good gesture,let me try my best and if I don't get the book locally,I will let you know.

@Djkistra You've already made the first step towards quiting. Just acnowledging that you have a drinking problem and would like to quit is bold enough a move and a step towards the right direction. In case you do not find the book,do not stop there,you can still quit as long as you put your mind to it. Firstly,keep off your drunkard buddies(i mean keep off,not kosana with them) because,they wil never help you stop. Find something to do in place of the drinking hours,something constructive or entertaining or even you could choose to volunteer someplace,and with time,you will get away from liquor. But do not expect to quit completely overnight! It's a gradual process. Every once in a while you might find yourself in compromising situations...that should not spell defeat for your battle. Soldier on and with Will power and a focused mind. You will come out clean. You can leave your contacts just in case someone comes across the book... I wish you all the best in this battle. It's a rough road especially if most of the people you spend time with are drunkards. But,if you WANT to quit,you WILL Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't.. Nevermind what haters say, ignore them til they fade away - Just live your life

@Djkistra - I'm guessing from the level of concern you are 'redeemable' i.e. not yet alcoholic but you want to avoid getting there - that is commendable. Just to add on the Leona's wisdom,other that staying away from bad company (recall the analogy of crabs in a bucket - people who are wasting their lives in bars will always encourage you to hang out with them so it seems 'normal' ),the other thing is 'cagnitive behavior analysis' - basically rather than see a shrink,learn yourself to identify the 'triggers' that lead to drinking or drinking binges and avoid them. Its not drinking ten beers that is bad - its the first that opens the door for the rest. So if you need to deliberately leave your phone at the office (thus be disconnected from buddies in the evening and night) - do it. if it means moving to a neighbourhood where there are no bars on the way home (thus avoiding saying 'let me drop in for JUST ONE' ) DO IT,etc. Look closely at what precedes the drinking and resolve to change that somehow. Might be idleness,might be stress at work or home,it might be money related (cut up your ATM card if you have to),etc. You are your own master. Bonne chance!
The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

Not being one to misspell and being didactically pedantic about such things,I meant 'cognitive' not 'cagnitive' :o)

Each time the URGE comes your way,call a meeting of you both and PLEAD with the URGE to give you at least a little more time before you take a beer.
Continue with those meetings and plead for more time everytime.
