Dear Sk family.

My wife is expecting our 2nd child & she started attending antinatal clinic at family health-based in nairobi west.

My problem is that the hosi insists on keeping the anc card. They say that its their property. Is this true?

We are now restricted to keep going back 2 them however expe their services might be.
Since the card has the ministry of health logo,i was thinking that patients pay 4 it and own it so that they can use it wereva they decide 2 go.
How should i solve this? Those in the know, pls help.

Rgds

the card bears the name of the owner of the card...

ie...

mama wa watoto...

that is a violation of her privacy....

one hostile letter from me.....

They should NOT retain the card.

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

Contrary to popular opinion, medical records remain the property of the hospital. They can be likened to data collected by private businesses on their clients, and are aimed at holding the hospital accountable to the care given to the patient. Such records can be accesed mutually through your doctor. You can also recieve a summary of the same from the hospital. You can also ask the institution to give you a copy of your medial records. In some instances a court order may be necessary. Although the client is charged a service fee during the creation of such records, this does not automatically grant ownership of the records to the client. Very many establishments operate on the same principal. For example the record of your legal proceedings remains the property of the state even after paying the court charges. Your university academic records too remains the property of the university, although a transcript or a degree certificate may be issued to you. Ante natal records are so brief that any obstetrician can reconstruct them in one sitting. All one has to do is to avail the recepts of the services paid for and have a good memory. However some lab tests must be repeated to asses the patient's current status.
