Hawk-eyed people here, don't miss anything ...probably went to see a doctor who probably told him he was on a fast track to a coronary, then he made a lifestyle change (or his wife put her foot down and made the change for him). No more wine and nyam chom, just steamed vegetables  wives do that sometimes

On that you-tube link at 1.05 he teases the matatu association guy on his increased weight... from a distance you can here "unakula chakula yangu, Bwana?" and gestures while they are shaking hands.... it is unlikely that someone who is or should be worried about his weight can joke like that... as someone has said, may be he has been warned on his weight by his doctor....
