True, first one checks in in 2013, that's why I find @gurus statement that pilots are in training odd given that an experienced pilot (which dreamliner ones will be) shouldn't take 2 years to get type approval.

The pilots are for the new low cost no frills airlline that KQ is planning to start comprising of tiny planes.. I have no idea about any dreamliners..

Right on. For the Embraers yes.

McReggae I completely concur with your statement and the way radio stations have been stating that KQ has acquired 9 dreamliners. KQ do have pilots training in SA specifically for the dreamliners though they have arrangements with the airline unions where expatriates will be hired for the short term.

"According to research conducted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in February 2011, Africa is now the second fastest growing region in the world in terms of commercial aviation, behind China”

"..Gallard cites airlines such as Nigeria's Arik Air -- which recently purchased two 747-8 Passenger Airplanes, Boeing's biggest passenger planes ---, Ethiopia Airlines, Kenya Airways and Rwanda Air as some of the companies striving to meet Africa's burgeoning aviation and connectivity needs.
But while bullish about the potential of these companies in the years to come, he remains wary of the infrastructure, political and technological challenges they must first navigate if they are to fully meet their potential."

KQ's success with its project mawingu is firmly pegged on the government's ability and commitment to complete the Greenfield terminal on time which is 2015/16, I mean according to recent data from KQ their passengers numbers are double the capacity JKIA can handle Sad !!! Positive news on this is that the government has agreed to complete the project in one phase instead of two. That takes care of the infrastructure aspect. Politics ruins everything it touches and this project is at risk of that as well.

787 Dreamliner is claiming the distance record by flying 19,835 kilometers non-stop from Seattle to Dhaka, breaking the distance record set by an Airbus A330 in 2002 (16,903 kilometers).

Maybe the KQ management should take a crash course on 'How To Deal With Striking Workers' from Posta
