I am a doctor in this country. The problem with people like @digitek who are the admin people at mafya house and expect excellent service from unpaid , overworked doctors- and give the "its a calling excuse" when they demand to be better remunerated. Our health sector is pathetic. no equipment, no supplies etc- we are left to make "intelligent guesses of our patients' diagnoses. No wonder our life expectancy is 58!

I tried to bring up a point here sometime back. Some careers are professions while others are vocations. Unfortunately, we get into vocations to make money. By any standards, a basic of 56K plus allowances is not bad for a vocation. You will not certainly run a V8 Range Rover,in your first year in service but it will keep your kids and family reasonably well. I say again, How I wish they were raising hell due to lack of equipment, not enough docs, lack of medicine, lack of ambulances and the like. At least I would know that they will work better. Even if they are paid five times what they have now,how can they work better if the facilities remain as they are? This is total selfishness!!

A graduate doctor earns 49k- that's in Nairobi, and about 38k in Moyale (take home-after taxes) works nights, does emergencies etc. Gava pays ati 600/- hardship allowance @bwenyenye- Now who is being selfish.

I think majority of wazuans eg @mcreggae and @bwenyenye go to private hospitals for treatment. Hence their opinions. Wore unto the rest of kenyans! I don't see how you expect doctors to attend to patients while wondering how to take care of themselves. Recently a doctor in Busia died in a public hospital in Nairobi- coz he was waiting for a service he could not afford! Another dentist died of a fire in Garissa coz ati gava could not pay for her treatment at nairobi hosp.Not to mention the attention all the Sinai residents got!

hey guys, i think some of us are missing the picture here...go to school, work for the gava for like 4-5 years with a promise of a fully govt sponsored masters...apply for masters, pass interview and start school only to be told gava spent your money for fees to pay debts???? so u have to work urself to pay up your fee... start ur classes as u work at Kenyatta hospital for FREE.. those guys are not paid to work at KNH but cant be treated there even for a cold for free...Plus their salaries have not been reviewed even by a bob since 1996...
If these guys were not there how many Kenyans would be dead by now..especially those that cannot afford expensive private hospitals???
