Kenya has 2300 doctors for a 40Million population while the UK has 109000 doctors for a 60Million population. Is it just me or is something really wrong for a long time in our health sector, education sector and policy makers? We need to change this and its not a #tunaomba serikali cry our goals are best achieved indirectly

#2 Who do most of the work so effectively?
That must be why the life expectancy is only 58 years!

I did not include clinical officers here, I have to say I have very little regard for the COs. Some of my high school classmates that ended up to be COs are people that I wouldnt entrust my kid's health with (no disrespect at all) but its an overstatement to claim they do MOs work effectively our goals are best achieved indirectly

I also thought that clinical officers are strange peoples. I clashed with one the previous week.
The ones I have dealt with have certain airs about them. They think they are on the same level as doctors, in the eyes of the patients.
They want to be worshiped thus, especially by the ladies and feared by the gentlemen. Bure Kabisa attitude!

@kiterunner those are the ones in public. there is quite a number in private anyway was always told med was a calling...if this gen Ys wanted ksh they picked the wrong course. in med you need at least 15 years of sch n experience to have a chance to get rich I may be wrong..but then I could be right

A calling it maybe, but would you rather you or your family be treated by underpaid doctors with low morale who cant afford the same service they are offering in private hospitals? Its not about getting rich, just do a ratio of doctor to patient in public hospitals and you will understand it better “People will believe a big lie sooner than a little one, and if you repeat it frequently enough, people will sooner or later believe it.” ― Walter C. Langer

Most do their work quite well. These KMTC graduates may not be as informed as docs, but they are the ones who man health centres esp in the rural areas. And they do the much of the doctor's work esp in regard to common ailments/injuries/maternity and they do it well. That is the reality, and in fact, quite a number are jobless. This country has been hemorrhaging doctors due to poor pay. Im not defending anybody. I would love to hear burning spear's comments on this. Comparatively, when they say our KDF is small, they forget the relatively large national police force, half of which is paramilitary. TULIA.........UFUNZWE!

But again I hope they are paid better. By the way, I thought their professional code of conduct does not allow them to down their tools at the expense of people's lifes?? Any doc in the house?? When I admire the wonder of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the Creator.

To reverse the trends GoK needs to set up medical schools in every county, they need to train docs for Africa. The 'hemorrhaging' docs out there form a good part of the diaspora remittances we so proudly refer to from time to time. We can train in excess and supply docs to the world like India and Philippines. The effect would be immense in improving health care in the country both directly and indirectly. COs play an important role in MoH but I would rather they raised the cut off of students KMTC takes on. I dont think there s a single career you take on to become rich, but its immoral to pay docs what they earn. Its a wonder they stick around when some countries are falling over themselves to get them our goals are best achieved indirectly

Paying a doc 60K after 7 years of book-warming is uncouth, while paying an accountant who spends kindu less than one year in college a similar amount! Portfolio: Sold You know you've made it when you get a parking space for your yatcht.

If that is what you think, look at what pilots earn vs their training duration. And how much do they spend in that training to CPL standard? The effort n money spent training a doc is equally as high as training pilot. A pilot n a doc therefore deserve a very good pay package. TULIA.........UFUNZWE!

Sadly....all that matters in this world is Demand Vs Supply. This applies for doctors, pilots, accountants, lecturers etc....(well apart from MPs since those 2 factors are fixed). Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

Sample this salaries for doctors; Consultant medical officer Basic 105,432 94,235 Rent 60,000 40,000 Non Practice 60,000 46,000 Commuter 12,000 12,000 Med. Allow. 1,995 1,740 for the medical doctors who are junior the basic salary could be lower but not below 56k for the basic but the allowances range on that level. But they ought to be compared to the salos of their counterparts in the commonwealth to make it worthwhile the training. If you look at the nurses salary you will literally look the other way and weep. Accept no one's definition of your life; define your life.
