Today, i took the litle ones for
their scheduled clinic and immunization. When i got to the waiting area, there was this lady giving a talk on contraceptives. While i did not have the chance to listen to the entire talk, i was able to grasp the following:

1. That norplant is no longer recommended as a contraceptive due to its negative side effects

2. That there are some china made contraceptives with such a high hormonal level that they cause serious side effects

3. That some of these contraceptives negatively affect men too. So if your man is fatigued, can't get it up or has mysterious aches and pains, it could be as a result of the contraceptive you're using,

3. That the hormones in some contraceptives alter breast milk and can lead to boys growing breasts later on, infertility in girls, children falling ill frequently, sores on the breasts and producing blood instead of breast milk.

How true is this information and has anyone heard the same from their doctors or in other fora?

I should also add that the lady also talked about how a certain lady's husband ran away to a mpango wa kando as intimacy with his wife was like 'swimming in a pool' as she put it, another negative effect of some contras.

Go back to the clinic and give us a full report here. These are very serious allegations. If you can't make it back, tell me which clinic this was and I will camp there soon.

It's always good to perform some due diligence before entertaining what people say and in this case, I implore you to behave like an African. Why? If it wasn't for your great great great grand father and mother, you wouldn't be alive. Now, were the said contraceptives or shots available to them?

The place is Uzima dispensary, off Thika road run by the Catholic church. I don't know the credentials of the lady who was going round giving those talks but no one was stopping her, not even the medical staff. I was only there to take the kids for immunization and while waiting, i was able to hear what she was saying. I'm just wondering whether this information has any truth to it

@Jonna, i think it's important to manage the size of one's family according to how able we are to care for them. Different people will use different methods to achieve this but it's important to make an informed decision. By the way this is not the first time i'm hearing about the norplant in particular

The talk was not discouraging the use of all birth control methods; it was more like a warning against some

Let leave the Vatican in this case and argue it from the Unknown to the Known. Then we can make informed decisions, not because vatican says so.

"A $29.5 million settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit about the use of the Norplant® contraceptive in Louisiana. The lawsuit claims that the Norplant® contraceptive injured women. The makers of Norplant® maintain that the contraceptive was safe. This case is known as Davis, et al v. American Home Products Corporation, Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, No. 94-11684. For more information on the lawsuit and settlement, go to www.NorplantCase.com or call 1-877-664-1434. "

The norplant is a no no. It comes with "wild" side effects and its long term side effects are not known. Know of a lady whose teeth became sensitive after she started using it. She suspected it was the culprit, removed it and was fine.
Lord, thank you!

@ Smano sometimes smirnoff hua zimeshika.
Anyways, hello wazua.
@ Shak.
I apologize if you understood my post to mean family size for I meant that you simply talk with your partner about these stuff and in the mean time, try to vumilia nyege when it's that time of the month instead of falling for the western crap. I am not opposing them because of religion for I don't believe in such but my girl-friend once took some contraceptives and after two months or so, she had irregular menstrual cycles to a point where she thought she was pregnant.
Anyways, a thorough review of history will reveal to you the atrocities carried out by individuals propagating for the above topic especially in unwanted species. (Survival of the fittest - Darwin).

1. Norplant is still approved for use as a contraceptive here in Kenya and in many other countries. However despite being approved by the FDA-it is not available in the US market.

2. most herbal products are not standardized in terms of the active products in them-even here in Kenya cases of babies effected by hormone overdose from such contraceptives have been reported.

3. Hormonal contraceptives can reduce the user's libido. However there should be no 'direct' effect on the man....hiyo ya kwenda kwa mpango wa kando ni 'indirect' effects

4. hormonal contraceptives containing Estrogen have a negative effect on milk production (QUANTITY AND NOT QUALITY). lactating mothers who opt to use hormonal contraceptives are advised to use the progesterone only products.

http://www.norplantcase.com/[/quote]

It's worth noting that the makers of Norplant won this lawsuit and many others that have been filed in the US, but decided an out-of-court settlement http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norplant

On August 26, 1999,
Quote:
after winning 3 jury verdicts, 20 pretrial summary judgments and the dismissal of 14,000 claims
, Wyeth offered out-of-court cash settlements of $1,500 each to about 36,000 women who contended that they had not been adequately warned about possible side effects of Norplant such as irregular menstrual bleeding, headaches, nausea and depression. Wyeth said that most of the plaintiffs experienced routine side effects described in Norplant's labeling information. Wyeth did not admit to any wrongdoing, saying the settlement offer "was purely a business decision," noting "our legal success has come at a steep price because lawsuits are time-consuming, expensive, and have a chilling effect on research," and that it would continue to offer Norplant and would contest "any and all new lawsuits aggressively."
