Seeing that this is a matter of public interest, can anyone who receives it just upload it to one of the free file sharing websites?

Its really sickening reading people comments on internet sites saying the syokimau people deserved what they got. No person,especially those who got the land after thorough search and built with legit hard earned money. Not all those guys were looking for shortcuts and all the reasons people are using to say they deserved it.

@Dash, I don't how you can sympathize with the guys, I can tell you for a fact the only documents of title that they have are letters of allotment given to some self-help group which then "sold" the plots to them. This was a big gamble to build on land that they had no title to. A letter of allotment means nothing and is not a title and most of them are usually fake.

The next thing is the approval of building plans by Mavoko that means nothing just that the council has found the building plans in order. To be honest these guys even if they went to court will get nil compensation they are just trespassers they actually have to pay KAA for encroaching on their land. I'm sorry but that is the blunt truth

@mkonomtupu, are u seriously telling me that there are banks that give out loans on letters of allotment?

If this is true, this is very serious?

I have little or no remorse for people who go buy land for speculative purposes as is the case with most Kenyans. Buy land in syokimau and wait for it to appreciate is as good as a pyramid scheme.

but I'm finding it very hard to believe that everyone in that area was silly enough to buy land in an area when they knew it was illegal. That is not logical.

The only logical conclusion is that they were hoodwinked by everyone from gov't, municipal offices, lands officials and even their own lawyers. That my friend is a dangerous recipe which begins the downward spiral of property prices in Kenya.

Who wants to buy my plot in Syokimau?

As far as I know, these plots DID'NT have genuine Titles at all!!

All the demolished house owners that were interviewed by media houses only spoke of approvals by Mavoko and provision of power by KPLC.

@JKmwatha&Others

do you have any proof of Title docs for any of the plots in question.

@Mainat

Spot on - if any one has a genuine Title issued from Ardhi, and/or genuine search certficate stamped by Lands registra they have a good case against the Govt for compesation.

Having said that, I still believe the Govt had an obligation to actively inform the public against buying/encroaching into this land.
Waiting as they did is in itself a form of abbetting - guilty of conspiracy of silence - in the court of public opinion.

You know all the pple that had their houses demolished? Pay KAA for what? that is such middle class 'as long as it doesnt affect me' mentality. Please speak on facts only as some had titles, a bank will not give you a loan with a letter of allotment.

I hope this the web involved on these shoddy deals; lawyers, folks in ardhi house, city planners and anyone else will see a day in court. Justice for all. It's funny how human rights activists are no where to be found.
