Demolition of 'palatial homes' at syokimau that rendered a 1000 homeless worked up people. Two weeks ago kyangombe n kpa slums were vanquished rendering 250000 human lost. Was there such huge outcry? Is this a veritable case of selective sympathy??.that land that witnessed tumbling of beautiful houses belongs to kaa square, same with the case for kyangombe, that land belongs to kpa. The squatters knew it for all this time n hv bn ignoring vacating notices for years. MPs were in both cases at hand to express there sympathy. If the illegal shanties went down with a mammoth humanitarian catastrophy,a few stones bungalows should come down for public good.

That aside i beg to ask. what is the role of government in both cases? At the same time where does individual responsibility of ones livelihood end and the government takes over?

The reason why this syokimau demolitions have evoked such raw emotions is because we can envision ourselves in that situation..those guys represent a majority of wazuans..

How many wazuans can say the are in the calibre of the guys who live in Kyangombe in terms of living standards? i am sure if u visited kyang'ombe the same emotions are evident only that they have very few avenues to vent it out as compared to the syokimau residents..

Who sold the land to these people!

Double standards, right there. Looking down upon people who live in slums. Both sets of groups constructed in illegal land, both were affected by demolitions, families slept in the cold. One group shouldnt be considered lesser than the other.

The fact that there's been more outcry on Syokimau than Kyangombe shows how hypocritical we are. Is it because Syokimauans spent millions on their property compared to Kyangombeans? Do you remember the story in the bible of the woman who gave all she had, in her poverty, which was two copper coins? What did Jesus say in comparison to the wealthier donors? Luke 21:1-4

I think the Syokks demolitions appear to have gotten more attention coz the media targets the middle class( Tv and Newspaper) and so since syokss is middle class, they had to blow their trumpets as hard as they could. Sad but harsh reality.

On another note am yet to see any of the syokians brandishing a title deed for all to see as happened with the IDP's who were displaying the titles.I think KAA has the mother title acquired earlier.

I doubt whether the govt can just wake up one mornin and order demolitions without cause.d'oh!

But just to demonstrate the double standards, remember how the likes of Sameer Park and Std Group way to be demolished to pave way for the expansion of Msa Rd. and the gov backtracked.Sad Sad

Its a classical case of class.

@ Jus Blazin, there is no double standard. It's not fair when the government issues you a title for land which is already owned by someone else, they give clean searches, issue building approvals etc....In addition to paying for the land in question

In the case of the slum, you have not paid for the land, and you are aware it's not your land...so you expect to be evicted. (Difference?
